Wornick drops civilian MREs

Filed under: News — kman @ 9:45 am

A couple of guys from the forums contacted Wornick to confirm the rumor they heard that Wornick was getting out of the civilian (Mil-Spec) MRE business. One of them finally heard back from Wornick and it looks like it’s true:

Your question about why we no longer produce civilian MREs was forwarded to me and I’ve been out of the office several days. I’m sorry for the delay in getting back to you. After the Y2K changeover went so smoothly, there was not much market for civilian MREs. We decided to drop the line to focus on more successful products, such as Homestyle Express and our line of White Rice and Asian flavor sauces in pouches.

Canadian Flameless Ration Heaters

Filed under: News — kman @ 7:32 pm

Over in the mreinfo.com forums, Jayuk mentioned that he just found some new flameless ration heaters(FRHs) that looked like the US version but where big enough to handle Canadian and UK entrees. Check out his post in the forums.

Here are a few sample pics. The first is a British entree, a Canadian FRH, and a US FRH together. The next two pics are of the FRH’s text in English (the other side is in French):
