MRE's at school

I'm bringing an mre to school tomorrow. I am concerned about the heater. Anyone here ever bring one w/ a heater to school? I'm just scared one of the teachers will have a panic attack because they think I'm starting a fire.

EDIT: I emailed the principal yesterday asking if it would be appropriate to bring the heater or take it out, and have yet to get a reply. I'll bring it if he doesn't reply, but I'll put it in my backpack seperated from the mre. (He replied to one of my emails on a saturday once, so he doesn't just use the computer at school lol.)

In this case, I would apply the rule of "better safe than sorry" and leave the heater at home. If you're taking any chemistry classes, you might mention the FRH to your teacher and ask if it would be ok to bring it in to class to use/demonstrate.

But seeing as schools these days have a lot of assinine "zero tolerance" policies, I wouldn't take any chances.

Well, I have science class, and the cool thing is we're learning about chemical reactions next unit in our books, so I'm definitely going to go ahead and tell my teacher about that. I think he is the only teacher in the whole DISTRICT that would let me.

(lol, I'm talking about a guy that did the spraypaint/lighter trick IN CLASS for a demonstration, then said he would do it again at the end of class if we were good....and he did!)

lol, surprised he didn't catch anything on fire.

also, keep in mind this is an 8th grade science class.

Sounds like he might be a cool teacher. Just be sure to clear it with him (and preferrably get it in writing) before you bring it in.

And while you're at it, you might want also want to be sure you remove the matches from the MRE...not sure how they would feel about those.

I always remove the matches from the mre's I get anyway.

When I was a kid, I had a teacher that lost his hand on Iwo Jima. Another flew B-25's in the Southwest Pacific. Even one of my art teachers (!) was a bombardier in the 8th Air Force.

These days, the pussies running schools would probably pee in their pants if they saw steam coming out of a FRH, and then they'd call the local SWAT team on you.

Ok, so the principal emailed me and said it was ok. So I brought it. All the other kids were staring at me when they saw steam come out of something with no cord, no microwave, and no oven. I think it was cool. The principal was walking by us in the cafeteria and I showed him it. he thought it was amazing! The reason why he was ok with it is because he was in the army 10 years ago.
