Scored again!

Post by RockyRaab »

Made my usual twice-monthly visit to Hill Air Force Base Commissary today. They have a rack of individual TOTMs and MREs I paw through. (Also full cases, but I haven't bought any of those yet). Today, I scored another premium MRE in the form of Meal #7 Beef Brisket AND a new-for-2014 Vegetarian Crumble Taco Pasta TOTM. Can't wait to try them. Be assured that there will be reviews posted here!

My only problem is that I tend to hoard the really, really good stuff for a "special event" that happens only rarely. Now that I have an inventory of ALL good stuff, I may have to relent and actually eat something, LOL!

Out of curiosity, what's the price for individual units and cases at commissaries? I don't often get to a commissary, and the couple of times I have been recently I've not seen any MREs. The last time I remember seeing them was at tech school, though I don't recall what the price was.

Let us know what you think of the brisket.
Had it on a camping trip before and wonder what other people think of it

Individual MREs cost about $7.65 and TOTMs are $4.65. Oddly, some vary by a few cents either way. Cases are priced at multiples of singles: a case of 12 is 12x the price of one.

I tend to use a TOTM as lunch and an MRE as a dinner meal. I try to eat them in the order that I bought them, with exceptions such as my Sausage and Gravy MRE that I'm saving for a campout breakfast.

I'm a bit surprised that the Stateside commissary price is as high as it is. I usually pay $7.99 for loose meals down at our local Army Barracks store, and thought it seemed a bit high.
This makes me feel a little bit better.

Now, if I could just find a source for a couple of First Strike Rations that were less than $25 a piece... s/h eXtra

It's still cheaper than a restaurant meal. TOTMs are cheaper than a fast food combo meal. One can make up meals for less, but not much less, considering the amount of food they get into an MRE.

Hmm, think I'll stick with eBay for the time being...

Rocky, the Beef Brisket is good. Have you managed to try the Asian Beef Strips?

Not yet. I try to work on a FIFO system for the most part. So there are a few meals ahead of the brisket and asian beef. I also eat them only while on fishing trips, and there isn't much fishing going on during the dog days of summer.
