That almost seems stupid. If they aren't getting enough food, they just need another MRE or something. If they aren't available, there's a larger issue. I imagine that part of the problem is you're out in the desert, hot, tired, and all of a sudden someone plops down a 1300 calorie dense MRE in front of you and says eat it. It's just bound to get hard to swallow. I guess that maybe this will help on that level, but they don't need more, they need a desert ration that addresses the best way to get soldiers to eat out there. Maybe this is it, but I doubt it. It just sounds like a way to throw a few hundred extra calories at them. Not being a soldier I might be way off base though in my assumptions, maybe they're scarfing down their MREs and wishing they could split another one with someone and there aren't any to be had, so this is the answer. I just don't think I'd be snacking throughout the day in 120 degree weather, and I live in Texas so I at least have a sort of baseline comparison, you just don't get hungry when it's that hot. *shrug*
