British Patrol ration- Desert review, Rice Pudding

Post by Garron »

Hey Guys

As its pretty darn cold here in the UK, -5C here now hasn't been above zero I don't think all day.
I thought a nice rice pudding would be a warming desert.

Patrol rations complete or single meals hardly come up for sale on UK ebay, I managed to get 2 patrol deserts and 2 normal 24 hour deserts for 99p!!! yes 99p, I just missed the main meals by a matter of seconds :(

Meal: Rice Pudding with Apple and Cinnamon, From patrol pack 1
Packing Date 02.07.2002 (2nd of July 2002)

Review,

I've never tried this before so I didn't really know what to expect, you can buy canned rice pudding with apple and cinnamon in the UK so I had a rough idea of the taste.

Upon opening a sweet, spicy, cinnamon smell could be noticed... a good sign.
Lots of powder, rice and brown cubes; the apple.
After mixing the water and waiting 10 minutes, it was chow time,
Not a lot of taste really, sweet and sickly yet bland at the same time. The smell kind of reminded me of the rice pudding baby food.
I knew there was some cinnamon in there but you couldnt really taste it, You could see it as little sprinkles mixed throughout. Every now and again you would chew and taste some sweetness which was the apple, it tasted like the little bits of dried apple you get in breakfast cerals.

It was a nice meal, not bad for my first try of a freeze dried meal.
