Hi gang,
Is anyone a pro on French rations? I have a French ration that is stamped "Best Before 23 June 1998." Most of the items inside are dated 1998 or 1999. If it was an MRE, it would be borderline on the dating. Even so, everything is in great condition (no leaks or bulging), and the food tins look very inviting. I would love to sample this ration, but am afraid that I have missed my window.
Any thoughts?
Tom
French Individual Reheatable Combat Ration
Hi Tom. If it were me, I wouldn't hesitate - I'd try it. Of course, I'd be careful and I'd be sure to smell each item first and then if they smelled good, I'd take a small bit to make sure the taste was ok.
Heck...a 1998 MRE wouldn't worry me even know. In fact, I have some from the 80's that I'll be trying out soon. But French rations I'm not so sure about. On another thread on here, it sounded like the German rations didn't hold out too well over time and I think the French rations are packaged in a similar manner.
Whatever you do, try it or not, please take some hi-res pictures and share them with the rest of us!
