Review of (aPack Ration)

I just found an (aPack Reduced Sodium Ration) Pasta w/Garden Vegetables and Tomato Sauce at a local Army Navy Store,

Date on this ration is 2337.
So this being Nov. 2019 I found this most interesting to try out!!!!
Not sure if many of you have had this ration so I wanted to send out a review.
This ration was treated nicely I would say because none of the components where damaged!!
I found the Fig Bar to be a bit crystallized and stale but not rancid.
The Skittles candy still retained its flavour and shape.
The raisins did suffer from some decomposition and where not edible.
Crackers where very crisp and still had flavour of malt and hint of salt.
The entrée was moist and had a bold flavour and did not have an after taste along with plenty of Pasta to Veggie Ratio..
The aPack Ration also comes with a packet of Salt Water to help activate the FRH.

I personality use 2 Heaters when I use my FRH, that way I don't have to rotate the entrée and they really make the Main a bit more than warm!!!

This ration held up pretty well for being 7 years old

I wonder if the exp. date is the reason your surplus store had these. Either way I have not seen those before, certainly not with the salt water packet for the FRH.

Pretty cool MRE there. How much are they selling them for?

I got started getting into MRE and rations because I wanted more variety of foods when hiking and camping!!

Where I live those would go for at least $10 each probably more like $12-$14 each. They rip the FRH out of the
MRE kits they sell where I know where to get them here. They sell them in clear bags and the heaters separate for more.

Yes, I am currently looking at actual fresh rations or long shelf stable foods for camping and other reasons. If you haven't discovered
Mountain House freeze dried foods check them out. They just need water, usually hot, then about 10 minutes. They are light and
taste pretty good. Any others i find I can recommend I'll try and throw your way!

I just picked up a Mountain House Mac & Cheese ration today from a local sporting goods store for $8 bucks..

MTN House - Mac & Cheese

I followed directions on the package and found that the meal got to watery!
Soooo I had Cheese beverage with Macaroni instead!!!
The macaroni was a bit chewy but then again I like my pasta that way..

I am playing around what would be best to use for my camping adventures - Freeze Dried or Retort meals???

Always add 2-3 less ounces of water than what they recommend in MCW’s and Mountain House. Which is who makes MCW entree.
You can always add a touch .

Nice quick write up. I get A packs for $5-6 here. I think I have 6 in storage, reduced sodium version too.

No complaints from me, it's a good civilian ration to keep on hand, just in case...I've never come upon the normal salt variety, maybe they are all low sodium, no idea
