That looks like one of the prototypes before they started putting them in the bags. I could be wrong, though. I'm sure Kman will be along shortly to let us know.

Lifesaver has it right about it being a prototype. I saw this same ration in an eBay auction lately. It's closed now (sold for...holy crap!...$321.22) but you can still it view it for a while here:

I thought it was "pre-wrapped bacon" (seeing as they already have pre-wrapped sausages).

And then what's the difference between "fried bacon" and "prefried bacon"??

I think that is the predecessor to the pre-cooked bacon that we can find in the grocery store these days in shelf-stable packaging under brands like Oscar Meyer.

They charge you more for it (comparable to a lb of bacon) though they've rendered away the fat that you might have been able to use for other cooking purposes.
