MRE Safe Eating Tips

Post by Ahamby » Wed Apr 10, 2019 2:40 pm

Hello everyone, I am new to the MRE community. I recently purchased a case of menu B to try and also picked up 2 foreign rations. I am looking for any safety tips. Everything I have now has a inspection date of 3/2019. The foreign rations are also within date, however, I hope to try some vintage rations in the future. Other than common sense stuff, bulging cans, pouches, bad smell, mold, any tips so that I don't end up sick. Really scared of botulism.

Thank you all in advance.

Unless they were stored someplace hot or otherwise treated very badly, I doubt you'll find any problems with MREs that new.

If you've never had one, you might at first be put off by what is commonly known as "that MRE taste" in the entrees. That's due to all the preservatives - which also are what keep them safe to eat. You'll soon get used to it, as they tell the troops.

Awesome, thank you for the tips. I ate some jalapeno cheese spread today that was delicious, so was the beef stick and nut and raisin mix. Going to test out an entree tonight i think. Thanks again.
