mre not on mreinfo?

Post by Runky1000 » Thu Mar 21, 2019 6:03 pm

So I took the dive and decided to treat myself to a brown bag vintage mre... Tuna noodles!

I had done a little research and in my head i knew what to expect but to my surprise it was different, so I looked here and started on mre menu's listed from the 80's upwards in to the 90's when the brown bags got discontinued! Nope can't find it!

No Chocolate nut cake.. no candy (m&m's or charms)

But I did find applesauce and an oatmeal cookie bar!!

Full contents.....

Tuna noodles
Applesauce
Crackers
Cheese Spread
Oatmeal Cookie Bar
Tobasco Hot Sauce
Orange Beverage Power
Accessory Packet A

Does anyone have info on this?

There is a possibility that yours could be a civilian brown bag MRE, they could sometimes look incredibly similar back then.

I was under the impression that civilian mre's didn't come with hot sauce or toilet paper.. infact I believe I read that someplace here! Could be wrong though!

with the brown bag items, it honestly depends on where/who it was from. Some did keep the military accessory pack, some substituted it. Unfortunately, there's no real records from the time and most of the info we do know is being compiled from anecdotal and other references.

Wow, brings back memories.
I used to get their catalogs all the time.
Last thing I bought was a pair of tiger stripe BDU’s if I recall. At least 10 or more years ago.
Didn’t realize they were out of business until I clicked on your wikepedia link.
