Is this common

Post by rw86347 » Thu Feb 14, 2019 12:40 pm

I recently bought and ate my first US military MRE. My wife suggested I try the Taco flavor MRE. I loved it! And it really got me hooked. However, one thing seemed strange.

On Youtube that MRE comes with cheese spread. Mine shipped with peanut butter. Now I love peanut butter, but would have much rather had cheese for my taco. It it common for the sides to be mixed up?

Yes. "Equivalent substitutions" are allowed - and happen a lot.

It's also a possibility that the menu reviewed in YouTube and the one you got are from different years, since from year to year there are changes
I have Spanish rations permanently, feel free to ask :!:

Yeah, man. What's the date code on your meal?

Menu #6 shipped with peanut butter through 2015. Cheese spread since then.

Menu components listed here by year of production
https://www.mreinfo.com/mres/mre-menus/all-mre-menus/

You probably already know, but just in case:
4 digit date code lists year as first digit and day of that year, the last 3. Ex. Jan 5 2018 would read 8005
But older rations like Jan 5 2008 will also show 8005.
