There's going that on that I asked some questions about MREs and freezer storage of them, because I needed the info for an RPG campaign I'm working on. Why?

Is this some kind of fantasy gaming question?
2-300 years in freezer storage? Really?
Just curious.

More like a tabletop role playing game, using the D20 Modern system (basically D&D in the modern world) and a campaign system that goes post apocalyptic, specifically the RPG campaign has the player characters starting in a cryogenic sleep chamber in a bunker, some 2-300 years from now. And since I have no idea about how long a military grade MRE is capable of being stored in a freezer, I thought that I'd ask here, since there's certainly going to be people more knowledgeable than I about that subject.

If you want them to "spawn" with food available, if in the story they go out of the sleep chamber when it's programes, you could put it so that there is machine made nutrients, it's feasible to store a wide set of yeasts and chemical compounds that would be stable for way more than 300 years, and have a machine grow the yeasts, the yeasts would produce aminoacids, glucids, lipids, vitamins, and well, minerals are stable for large periods of time... One the yeasts have produced the nutrients, a machine could sterilize, compress and store for a finite amount of time that food...
This is feasible with today's technology, I can go more in depth if you want...

I just wanted to know if it's possible to store MREs in a freezer for centuries and still have them be usable/edible. Even if said MREs only exist as a fictional item in a pen&paper role-playing game.

And I do believe that I have gotten the answer to that. I might stuff some form of what's been suggested for replacement into the bunker the PCs start in. Or I might not, so they'll have to go look for it.

Ok gotcha.
The problem I would see is having a freezer system that would actually last without a breakdown. I would think any defrosting after being frozen would be bad.
I could see an MCW lasting 50 years in right conditions.
Maybe if you packed a bunch of cases in a giant Pelican type case with a large metallic disc on outside and buried in Antarctica ice pack. Probably be you best bet for a few hundred years of non interrupted freeze.

Yeah, now that i thing about it, the decay depends on the temperature, the lower you go, the longer it lasts, i think if you went with an industrial freezer that could go quite low you could store them for that ammount of time safely

It's an RPG, kudos for the realism as a DM but geez, lol. You can probably tell what my favorite RPG world is.

Considering that the RPG rules system I usually use has a VERY comprehensive list of various sh…, ahem, stuff that can happen to you of you are hit by a weapon, projectile, or explosion?
I prefer some realism in an RPG, and with MREs involved, which I know nothing about, except from my own experiences some 20-odd years ago, and what I've seen on YouTube? I thought it would be better to ask someone who knows their stuff, hence the original post of this thread.
