Now, I'm really not a coffee drinker, every kind I try just tastes horribly bitter. Most of the instant coffee that comes with MREs has been the same, really bitter stuff, but two types, I actually did enjoy:
-French Vanilla Cappucino
-Irish Cream
The first one was from the "Vegetable chili with pasta" MRE, but I can't remember which menu the second one was from. Is there any place I can get these, outside of MREs? They're seriously the only coffee I've ever had that I could actually drink.
Trying to find certain MRE coffee
Re: Trying to find certain MRE coffee
Yes. Several different brands are available in most grocery stores in my area. They are usually kept right next to the regular instant coffee. My wife is a huge fan of these and SO much cheaper than your fancified cafe house offerings.

IIRC, Irish creme came in with one of the beef entrees, thinking brisket or beef stew....can't remember which ones.
And I agree on the International Delights, they tend to be the closest commercial I've found that comes close to the cappuccinos in the MRE's.

I managed to find that exact product at the local Walmart, and...it's surprisingly close to what the MRE had. I can't really taste much flavor (maybe I added too much water?) but it does not have that distinct bitterness that almost every other coffee has.Mpitt wrote:Yes. Maybe it just needs a bit of sugar, or a little bit more powder / little less water.

EDIT: Yeah, made another cup, this time measuring out exactly 8 ounces of water, and instead of adding 4 tsp, I added 2 tbsp of the powder, as well as a couple pinches of sugar. Tastes wonderful.
Finally, coffee that I actually like. Now I just need to find a type of alcohol that I can stand to drink, and I'll officially be an adult.
