Odd/Specific Request

Post by gschultz9 » Wed Jan 24, 2018 9:10 pm

So, I'm not sure where to look for a pretty specific item. And I'm not sure if I should be posting this here or in the Members' Forum or elsewhere.

Anyway, I'm looking for a few pouches of MRE Corn. Not Corn Nuts (Toasted Corn Kernels) or Cornbread or Cornbread Stuffing. Just plain old Corn (or as it was called, Mexican Style Corn). It was a side dish in Menu No.1 Chili With Beans from 2006-2010. I can't seem to find anything else that included corn as a side dish. Since it has been discontinued for so long none of the regular sources (that I know of) for MRE sides (places like theepicenter.com and campingsurvival.com) don't carry it anymore. I know it's a long shot, but was wondering if anyone around here might happen to have a few pouches stashed away that they'd be willing (happy?) to part with. Or, if anyone might know of a possible source to find it. I only need about 3 or 4 pouches. It's for a little project that I've been thinking about for a while now that I'd love to finally tackle. As strange as it sounds, this project requires some MRE corn! If I can't find any I'll probably look at using some freeze-dried corn.

While we're on the subject of trying to track down specific MRE components, I also need a few other "ingredients" for potential projects. Since your minds are already churning to think up sources for corn, I'll mention a few other things I need. Some of these are also discontinued and some are currently found in MREs and easier to find:

-MRE Biscuits (extinct)
-MRE Refried Beans (recently extinct)
-MRE Black Beans in Seasoned Sauce
-MRE Beef Taco Filling
-MRE Mashed Potatoes (either the extinct plain ones or the current Garlic ones)
-MRE Tortillas

There's probably some other stuff too, but that's the bulk of it. Some of this stuff is very easy to find, some tougher. What would be awesome would be to find a supply of any or all of this for a reasonable price! Any thoughts from the good folks at MRE Info?

I have these 3 mre's packed in late 2014. I'm sure one of these might have what you're looking for?

Ok, where to start.

Tortillas, I have both the civilian and the military. Plenty of both on hand. In fact, we just placed an order for 6000 military tortilla packs last Friday.

Starting in May, we will be producing Southwestern Style Corn, this has red peppers and onions mixed in.

Mashed Potatoes, mostly you will find these as either Instant Mashed Potatoes or Freeze Dried Mashed Potatoes. We have both our brand (in stock) and have a couple cases of the Aussie on the way.

Starting in June, we will be doing both Black Beans and also White Beans. Of course, we will have sweet cornbread to go with it.

I think we have found a source for bisquits, will know more by the end of next week. We have designed a freeze dried white sausage gravy and if we can source the biscuits we will move forward with an all American menu featuring Biscuits, White Sausage Gravy, Freeze Dried Scrambled Eggs, and 3 pieces of Bacon. More to come on that. It all hinges on the biscuits.

Refried Beans and Taco Filling will probably never be back in an MRE. The beans have too low of a margin and the Taco Filling was not a big seller. That said, we are currently working on both Beef and Chicken Fajita Meat with onions and bell peppers. That menu will of course come with tortillas and shelf stable salsa (3 year).

Hope all this helps. Don't know what project you are working on, but maybe I can be of assistance. If it's for an MRE menu you would like to see brought to life, I could help with that as well.

PM me your number if you want to chat about it.

Wow, thanks for the responses you guys! I really didn't know if this would be a fruitless search, but figured I'd throw it out there. It DOES look like the corn is indeed going to be a challenge. But it's good to know that most of the rest of the stuff IS out there. Bob, thanks for all that valuable information! I hadn't even thought to reach out to you now that you're getting that custom MRE business off the ground with all the great options you plan to offer eventually. I might have to wait to tackle my project until that new version of the Southwestern Style Corn becomes available! That would be awesome if you guys can revive the Biscuit too! That thing was definitely too short-lived in MREs. I'll definitely touch base with you as far as some of the other stuff. Thank you!

MSSGMIKE, that Beef Taco one would definitely be a help (with the Taco Filling and the Tortillas)! The Southwest Beef and Black Beans might be good too (even if only for the Chipotle Tortillas that are apparently in there!). Would you be willing to part with any/all of those Menus? Unfortunately I don't really have anything to trade, but would be happy to buy them from you. Just let me know if that would work for you!

Sturm44, Thanks for checking! If you would be willing to part with any/all of those components please let me know! Like I said above, I don't really have anything to trade at the moment, but would be happy to buy them off you. Just let me know!

Thanks again everyone! Maybe, just maybe I can get this little pet project off the ground!

Ameriqual is rather proud of those newly pouched seasoned black beans, huh?

The retort pouches must be lined with gold on the inside, haha

Ah, okay, that makes more sense! I had a feeling that was probably what you meant, but I was wondering...

I could use two or three of those pouches! But would it be worth making an order that small, or would you need something more substantial to make it worthwhile? Thanks for lending a hand Ben!
