Re: Is this real US Field Ration D from WWII?
I have seen that D ration bar and am not sure if it is authentic. I have never heard of that company before and did digging around - could not find anything.
Saw this bar being sold for $75. Held off on it because it just didn't feel right on authenticity.
I have gathered that D Ration bars were produced by Hershey's, the Cuneo Press, Peter Cailler Swiss Chocolate Company, the Bloomer Chocolate Company, Shellmar Products, Charles A. Brewer & Sons, Wrigleys & also Cracker Jack.
Early D Ration bars were aluminum foil wrapped and some paper wrapped from what I have found. Later when aluminum became a scarce resource during WW2 and the use of chemical weapons were a high risk, waterproof cellophane and wax coated boxes were used.
