Now for a review...

On opening up this ration I removed and inspected the contents. Unfortunately there was a slightly foul smell coming from something. It turned out that the lunch meat was compromised. It seems to have leaked through the top of the foil container. There has also been significant moisture ingress, whether from the lunch meat leaking or otherwise.
Both coffee extract sachets contained very sticky melted lumps of what i can only assume must have once been some sort of coffee granules/crystals/powder.
I added water to one anyway to see if it at least smelled good. It did not.
The smell was very much like artificial coffee essence or that chickory coffee substitute stuff.

The sachet containing the 6g multivitamin drink was blown up like a balloon fit to burst. What came out was a weird hardened brick of some crystalline substance.
I added water to it and let it sit for a while to see if it would dissolve. It did, it became luminous yellow and smelled very sharp but good. strong lemon and grapefruit scent. It tasted extremely bad, it was ejected from my mouth with haste and the rest dumped. I believe it had gone off badly. Though the state of the sachet beforehand pre warned me.

I then proceeded to make the instant fruit drink. This was stuck together and quite sticky but i took a chance with it as the lithuanian drink mixes are always like that and theyre fine. This took a long time to dissolve and had strange orange bits floating on the top but it tasted delicious.

I prepared a black tea and added one sugar sachet. The tea was pleasant. a medium level of bitterness, made perfectly palatable to me by the single sugar portion.

Next i opened the lunch meat, this looked alright but smelled bad. It's state of dereliction was confirmed by my cat, who sniffed it when a piece was offered to him, took a lick of the fat/jelly part then batted it away with a paw in disgust. Unfortunate.

On to the pate with cheese. I am only slowly being converted to pate. This was the most palatable for me so far. I used it on both types of crispbread. It tasted best with the corn version.

The crispbreads themselves... the corn one was still super crunchy and very tasty. The ordinary version was a little less crispy and tasted a bit stale.

while i had the crispbreads out I tried a jam portion. The jam seems to have "aged" a bit and was quite watery but it tasted quite good, if a little fermented. It went best with the white plain crispbread.

It was now time to sample the mains, which i heated up on my stove top as I was doing this review indoors.

The Znojmo style short loin dish smelled great. The rice part however, that was one congealed block that took a bit of breaking up. It didnt taste bad though but the whole dish was very salty. The meat seemed to be of reasonable quality but it tasted a lot of salt and maybe some sort of stock cubes/ boullion cubes rather than particularly meaty. There were some onion pieces and what looked like little bits of green beans. The texture and taste of this was quite good. There was a lot of black pepper evident and its taste was certanly there although overridden by the salt.
I ate half of it and it felt quite sustaining and the textures were nice despite the dish not being particularly flavourful.

I then tried the potato goulash.
This I did not like. The meat content was quite low and what meat was there contained a lot of chewy, gristly fat pieces and big bits of veins etc. Not very appealing. The potato pieces were nice but it lacked flavour other than those, it was quite bland. I was disappointed in this one. In a survival situation of course i would not turn it down as any warm meal would be greatly beneficial but in the context of a leisure time ration investigation this one was not a winner.
I will not return to the remaining portion of this.

To finish off I opened up one of the chocolate bars. There was significant oxidization on the surface but the chocolate was nice and similar to other eastern European dark chocolate.
The gum pieces were soft, with a pleasant and long lasting spearmint flavour.


To sum up, I was somewhat disappointed with the taste side of this ration, but I still greatly enjoyed investigating and trying its contents.
I would not rate it above lithuanian, polish or latvian rations.
It is a large and no doubt very sustaining ration but this one did not hit the spot for me. However I would still try out other czech rations in the future.


The highlights of the ration were the tasty corn crispbreads, the interesting pate with cheese, the instant fruit drink and the dark chocolate.

Thanks for interesting review It is a pity,that so many items were damaged. The packaging is not very tough, with so many soft cans it resukts in damaged content.

It was still interesting and enjoyable for me to try it out, but yes, there were a lot of compromised items. Thankfully I at least got to try the mains, even though I was not hugely impressed with them.

I'm sorry that the pictures are not arranged very well but I hope it will at least give some indication of the contents of the ration.
It was cool to open it up as i've never got one before. Since I wasn't going to make a video I got some relevant pictures.

As for the german EPa, I have not actually got on of those yet myself but I've seen them reviewed here and on youtube obviously.
I've held off getting them as it seems quite expensive to get them really. I've been distracted by my love of US MCW/LRPs lately and my growing fascination with the rusian stuff too.
I hope to be doing a croatian one soon and I think i've got a different czech one on its way
