I though it was a kind of old rocket :oops:

Nawt, Stef, I don't know what V2 really means but I've seen it stamped on the bottom of MRE boxes since forever up until 2005. It definitely doesn't mean "vegetarian" (like it does on British rations) beause it's on every case.

I'll try to get a picture to post later, but it looks like 2006 cases have "MRE" in that area instead of V2.

you're right kman, I checked on my "A" case, 2003: there's also V2s written on the box.

Maybe that's an indication of normalized size ?

Hi Nawt- I think the "V2s" stamped on the bottom refers to the grade of the box's materials, not the meals inside.

I Googled it to make sure, and I found a .pdf of a government spec sheet for packaging materials, here:

This is the relevant page (p. 81). It's a type of cardboard under mil spec "PPP-B-636". If I'm reading it right, "V2s" tells you how water resistant it is (?) :
