German Typ 5
I bought a Typ 5 EPA Blackdogbob a few weeks ago, and I jumped right in the day after I ate the French RCIR. The contents are similar in vastness to the RCIR and this one also happened to be a similar meal too. The EPA was packed as follows:
4 drink mixes (Orange, Lemon, Grapefruit, and Exotic)
2 Kaffee (Coffee)
2 Tea
1 Cappuccino
2 coffee creamer
4 dual packs of sugar
1 pack of gum
6 water purifying tabs
1 pack of matches
1 wet nap
2 salt
2 jam (black current and apricot)
1 bread in a can
1 natural bread spread
2 meat spreads (liverwurst and beef liver)
1 Chocolate bar
1 Muesli
1 Rice Pudding
1 pack of biscuits
Noodles with cream sauce and meatballs
meat and risotto
I popped both the risotto and noodles with cream sauce in a pot to heat while I sat down to mill over the other items I had in the box. I decided to mix up the orange and the lemon drink mixes to try, figuring they wouldn't be bad because they're pretty safe flavors, I was not disappointed. The orange tasted very well and the lemon smelled and tasted just like lemonade. I felt like my hands needed a cleaning, so i cracked open the wet nap and cleaned up before I ate. I opened up the pack of biscuits and got the beef liver spread out; the spread was smooth surprisingly and the biscuits were kinda tasty also, similar to, but not 100% like the French cereal biscuits. I tried to eat then tried to eat the cereal bar, but I did not like the texture or the flavor, I only ate 2 bites and then tossed it. I pulled the meals from the boiling water, dried them off, and peeled them open while letting them cool down. The risotto with meat sadly tasted and smelled like it had turned, I didn't venture to eat it, I'm not entirely sure if it was good or not. The noodles and meatballs were actually large and quality made, the sauce was creamy and smooth as well, the biscuits made short work of the remaining sauce. I finished off the night with the chocolate bar, which had started to bloom unfortunately, but I still ate it, its definitely a decent dark chocolate.
The next morning I had the Muesli and rice pudding for breakfast with some of the biscuits and tea. The muesli is similar to the that as French RCIR and the rice pudding was a different twist. I poured in the boiling water to make the pudding, let it sit and cool, then dove in, it was a surprise to have a tasty desert for breakfast. The tea was a nice black tea extract and I had it with the last of the biscuits, just to mix it up. After that, I popped open the bread in a can, dumped it out and realized that it was thin slices of a nice oat/grain bread, but after trying to a whole piece with and without the butter spread, I determined it was too sour and was probably no good. Maybe I'm just not used to it, but I trust my tongue to let me know when I should and shouldn't eat something. Both the night before and after breakfast I had some of the actually really good spearmint gum, which turns out, was manufactured on my birthday in 2013. The gum was packaged in a ziplock bag and there was something along the lines of 12 pieces in there, and it was long lasting flavor that made you feel like it was normal gum.
Thanks again to Blackdogbob, this was a real treat for me, and I can't wait to get ahold of some of the other ones you have. I recently got a Russian IRP, I am still having my friend who teaches Slavic languages at Lafayette College translate it for me. I also bought a Dutch ration that I will be posting about soon and after that I have a couple of special ones coming my way too.

Nice! thanks for posting that. I'm surprised an entree that new had turned. You think maybe it was just really bitter? I know some of these entrees aren't flavored like us Mericans are used to. Sometimes I'm put off by the large amounts of basil and other herbs that make it seem super bitter, and not all that palatable.

Yeah, I know it was super new, so I'm pretty sure it hadn't turned and it was something like the seasoning that had cause me to not like it.wats6831 wrote:Nice! thanks for posting that. Re: German Typ 5
I usually find things seasoned with rosemary taste a bit like mold, so I have to keep telling myself it's just the spices

Re: German Typ 5
I had this very same Ration a few weeks ago, very likely from the same case that Bob had. The beef risotto had a flavor I was not familiar with, but mine was not spoiled. The dumplings and meatballs in that tomato/cheese? Sauce was different aswell, but I enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing your review, looking forward to the next one!

Thanks for the support everyone. I really enjoy doing this even though my lady friend who said "You need a hobby" now says "I didn't mean a weird hobby". Now, is there there any suggestion as to how I might make the reviews better? More pictures maybe or less time on the opening?

What makes the review section of the forums so great is that each person reviewing a ration puts their own uniqueness into the review. You could read three reviews of the same ration and come away with three different opinions and enjoy all three. Keep doing what you are doing. It helps the community and brings enjoyment.oktoberskyline wrote:Thanks for the support everyone.
