2008 Menu #4 Cheese and Veggie Omelet

Post by shawker71 » Sat Dec 17, 2016 7:08 pm

Today we have one menu that I was excited to get and leery of at the same time due to it's reputation. First I want to thank Sticky Fingaz for the trade and the opportunity to try this menu. Now on to the pics and my thoughts:

Packed by Ameriqual

Everything out of the bag

The contents on a tray....."Nice"

On to the tasting....
1217161405.jpg
The omelet was a full 8oz and quite large in my opinion which was a good thing. It did not smell awful and you could smell the peppers and tomatoes in it.

It took me some time to work up the courage to actually take a bite and I was very surprised that it was delicious. I am not sure where the bad rap came from but I thoroughly enjoyed this. The cheese was easy to taste and the veggies complimented it quite well.

The cinnamon scone was a new thing to me. It was moist while being quite dry at the same time. It reminded me of the cinnamon bun in the FSR. Not awful but not great either.

The granola with blueberries in milk was tasty and the blueberries rehydrated quite nicely. I have enjoyed every menu this comes in. (Old Smokey, I promise the next one I get is yours)
1217161353.jpg
The Crackers were as always.....crackers

I did not open the accessory packet on this one as it was nothing special. Fort some reason I can't upload the last couple pics so I will continue in a second post......

.......Continued......

The Apple Butter was delicious as always and really should have been included in more menus I think.
1217161403.jpg
The French Vanilla Cappuccino was pleasant and mixed nicely. Very sweet for my taste but still good.
1217161416.jpg
The Salsa Verde was the only thing that made me wince in this meal and I am so thankful I put it in it's own compartment. What a bag of death that was. I am not sure if it was supposed to taste as vinegary as it did but I actually cringed tasting it.

That concludes my thoughts on this infamous menu. I quite enjoyed it and am happy to have tried it. I hope you enjoyed the review.

Good review! I never minded the omlet, if heated and with a little salt on it. Thanks for sharing!

Nice review! I agree with you about the salsa, it looks very watery and unpleasant . Maybe they should have included a packet of ketchup instead.

Cool review! I didn't even know they had apple butter.

The Salsa Verde looks like pond water, which is supposed to be the normal color, but... don't blame you for avoiding it :P
*opens crackers and a horrible, bleach scent fills the room*
"Not bad."

Nice review! I am glad to finally find someone who liked this one. I had this one back in the day on active duty and man I did not like it. I was used to the old brown bag omelette with ham so to me the taste of this entree was very different! Seems like I just remember it tasting like rubber....

This came out after I got out ('99) and I remember the Omelet with Ham and it was way better but I actually enjoyed this. It was way different but I think had they added ham or sausage to this it would have been killer.

The trick with this meal - if anyone gets another one - is to vigorously and completely chop up the main until it actually looks like scrambled eggs. That improves the appearance and texture. Hot sauce or ketchup adds a lot. The salsa verde is indeed horrible, however.

That is a good idea to chop it up and ketchup would have been good on it or a little Tabasco. Overall though it was palatable.
