MRE DINNER AND A MOVIE

Post by DIRTYDAVE » Mon Jan 17, 2005 2:13 am

I am planning on continuing my work to dispel rumors of the dreaded MRE and to further the cause of educating the public, namely my friends, in the facts of the MRE by inviting my friend and his girlfriend over for dinner...an MRE dinner and a movie...We Were Soldiers...perhaps?

I plan on putting all the different meals out that I have available and allow them to decide which one they would like to choose from. I will then allow them to trade meals, entrees, sides or desserts among each other for that realistic comraderie that the troops in the field show by allowing an exchange if you will of undesired items for desired ones. For example, if I get Clam Chowder as a side, it will HAVE TO BE exchanged for something else...ANYTHING, BUT NO CLAM CHOWDER FOR ME. We will also prepare the meal in true military fashion in that we will use the MRE heaters and all of us will be provided with a full canteen's worth of water to utilize for mixing the beverage, activating the heaters and to provide additional drinking water.

At this time I have not told my friends about this but I am sure they will be up for it. I will keep everyone posted on the details and will probably film the event for a streaming video in the future.

Why not some of you try this as well? I would love to hear the results.

Hey Dave, that sounds like a pretty cool idea. And that's very generous of you to offer to put out all your MREs and let them pick. You could always do it military-style and just have them reach into the box and pick one blindly and then they're stuck with it.

But then again, seeing as they may not be MRE fans right now (inside every civililan is an MRE fan waiting to get out!), maybe it's safer to let them have some choice.

I don't know what their taste buds are like, but it might also be helpful to have a big 'ol bottle of hot sauce handy just in case they need a little more flavoring.

Well, my one friend eats those Bocca Vegetarian burgers all the time so I was going to set aside the new Veggie Burger MRE especially for him and allow him to have it and tell me how it compares to his civillian ones which he eats I think about three or four of a day. But I will let him decide. He may be up for some of that yummy (NOT) clam chowder...YUCK...PUKE...VOMIT!!!

This has not happened yet, nothing to report. I told my friend about doing this and he has been avoiding me. I guess this is one way to lose a friend...LOL!

TEARS OF THE SUN is a great one. I could give them their choice. There is a new Extended Director's Cut coming of Tears by the way...
