Hello. You people are all sick. ;)

Hi, new member Beppo here. I'm in the Army, and having eaten MREs for over a decade now, I thought I was somewhat of an oddity because I still enjoy eating MREs, and am enthusiastic whenever the new menus come out, always eager to get my hands on a meal I haven't tried yet.
Until I discovered this forum, though, I thought I was off-center...but you people are all sick in the head! :D
I never knew anyone else was as interested in MREs (and Army rations in general) as I was, but I see now that I am but an amateur! It's a great place you have here! I hope to learn more and hopefully make a contribution in my own way. That said, I am currently in Iraq and am stationed on a base with a few other armies. I've been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to try some foreign rations (Italian and Australian) and hopefully will be able to try more.
Here are some introductory pics of the meals I've gotten. More to come as time permits!
(Of course these aren't just souvenirs, I opened and ate these. :) )

Welcome to the board. Yes, we are sick; but, it's a good kind of sick. You should fit right in here. Nice photos for a first entry. Too bad you have such good access to mres. It would be great to trade with you for some of those foreign rations.

Welcome to the forums, Beppo! As Lifesaver said, you should fit right in here. :-)

It sounds like even rarer than someone who's into Army rations in general is someone who's currently in the Army and is still into them. But we're glad to have you here regardless. :-)

That's cool about having access to foreign rations over there. You'll have to keep us updated on what you run across and post some taste-tests.

Here's my first question for you: what's your position on Country Captain Chicken? And no cheating by searching the forums until you've answered!

Looks kind of like an M4/M16-A3 with the carrying handle removed to me...but I'm no expert.

I've got to go along with kman on the lineage of that weapon. The barrel and site look like some M-16 variant.

Hi! Thanks for the welcome! Well first things first: My thoughts on Country Captain Chicken? Like most people, the first thing I thought upon encountering it was, "What the hell is 'Country Captain Chicken'? And what the hell is a 'Country Captain' for that matter?" Actually I'm still wondering what the heck a "Country Captain" is. Anyway, the meal isn't bad, but to me it's pretty low on the totem pole.
Regarding the weapon in the picture, it's nothing special, just a "standard" M16A2. It only looks like the handle is chopped off because the sling is covering it.
As far as the Italian rations, the big foil bag contains three small boxes (each about the size of a child's shoe box) containing breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There are also a bunch of accessories.

Descriptions and reviews to come later. Gotta go to work! Enjoy the pics!

Speaking of vegemite, that reminded me of an article I read recently where they said that stuff was being banned for import into America. I won't hijack this thread into a vegemite-thread so here's a new topic:
