Wow
No 1 vegetarian?!
Date code 8XXX neither 1998 nor 2008 had a Red Beans and Rice entree. For a 2008 it´s the wrong bag design, it suppose to be the new one.
No idea...

This was out of a complete case of (12) vegetarian MRE's. The date code reads the 254th day of 1998 not 2008 - I believe - and is made by Ameriqual. The complete cases of regular Military vegetarian MRE's are VERY tough to find and IIRC not made anymore.
Here is a link to another post with a similar package;

It looks like a version of the FEMA Disaster handout meals, not a military MRE.
Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

I've got a case made by Ameriqual, DOP 7235 (1997):
The only place it is labeled is on the side as shown.

Yep, that's them! A few years back on Ebay there were a bunch of cases of these that got sold off. Travelowl, have you tried any of the MRE's in that case to see if they are still edible?

Sorry for the late reply, I do check in here often but missed this earlier.
I have not opened the case, frankly I was going to trade it with a member here but have not heard back from him in weeks.

I have this exact same MRE and asked the same question here at the forums about four or five years ago! I got mine at a yard sale and then couldn't figure out what it was. Thought I had some incredibly rare mystery, and then the good folks here answered my question almost immediately! I still have it and have been trying to find the time to review it!
Here's my post from back in 2012:
