Natick articles

Post by Treesuit » Wed Nov 08, 2006 1:30 am

Well greetings everyone,
I'm back from a long vacation and would very like to update some of the kind folks out there on what you might be seeing in the next few years. I'm sure we have some articles on the new menus but I have here some insight ideas from the folks at Natick Reasearch Labs. So here are some links I though might be good to read:

http://www.ssc.army.mil/about/pao/pubs/ ... sliced.htm
http://www.ssc.army.mil/about/pao/pubs/ ... atless.htm

http://www.ssc.army.mil/about/pao/pubs/ ... freeze.htm
http://www.ssc.army.mil/about/pao/pubs/ ... dex.htm#a4
Well there are few posts hopefully everybody can get to. If not I can try to re-post them. One thing I noticed with these is that they don't desscribe any new meals or any secret stuff but do offer some insight at Natick Labs. So enjoy

Great articles.

King, did I read that contract correctly? The MRE manufacturers are getting price adjustments of $140-167 MILLION dollars each for their MRE contracts? Wow! What were the original contract prices, I wonder? Those are some big bucks.

Thanks for all the links, Treesuit. I've been reading about those new sandwiches for what seems like ages. Are they ever going to release them to the regular troops?

And it's nice to seem them working on a better bread. I couldn't tell from the article if that stuff is supposed to replace the Wheat Snack Bread in the MREs or the Shelf Stable Bread that they distribute separately.

I've always been partial to the bread in the Canadian IMPs and that's what this new stuff looks like.

Aha, Lean Pockets make their way into the future MRE. Or since the government wants high caloric meals...HOT POCKETS!

Now, I wonder when Marie Callendar will get her entrees into the MRE....
for the gourmet MRE...and I am sure Emeril will get his meals in there too....BAM!

Hey guys,
Let me weigh in on that bread issue. I remember seeing the article here on the forum about the Spanish rations having some delicious bread. I think the military could take a lesson from them and come up with something like that in the MRE's. Few years I had the first version shelf stable bread which is okay but it's rather dry. Then with the wheat snack bread that was better but tough in my opinion. If they could come up with something like the Spanish can I'd be hoarding that stuff like crazy. Also the Candians still have our version of the shelf stable in their rations. For some reson I can't figure out why they wouldn't improve on theirs as well? Who knows? :?

Kman,
I totally forgot. When you mention those new Hotpockets making there way to the regular troops it could be this year or next that they might show up. For us in the reserves it might be some time before that entree filter to us. But here's a thought. What would you think if they put Hotpockets in the new UGR's for field kitchens? In my unit we have UGR's cooked up by our mess section and we already have some new menus coming in. I wonder if they might show up there? :o
