Testing US FRH with FLIR Thermal Camera

Post by T Bone » Fri Jul 22, 2016 7:08 pm

Hey Folks,

I was finally able to shoot and publish my testing of the US FRH heating up entrees using the standard MRE Entrée Box, MRE Entrée Sleeve and a Foam Sleeve from a Chinese PLA Type 13 ration. You will be surprised to see the differences......

See the video here:

I plan to do a video comparing the US FRH against Danish heaters, JSDF heaters, Chinese heater, Lithuanian heaters and some smoking hot commercial flameless heaters. Thanks to Gundog4314, Steve1989, Stickyfingaz745 and gschultz9 for the encouragement.

Special thanks in advance to Gundog4314 who didn't know me from boo and sent me some of the heaters. If you have a flameless ration heaters that you would like to be tested in this roundup, please contact me! And subscribe to my channel on YouTube (SuperDink88).

I hope to contribute to this community!

Cheers

Just to let you guys know. The color scal self calbrates to the temperature range. While these images may look the same picture to picture. Look to the scale on he right and specific temperature readings at specific points.

So whats better in these images?

Does the US box that shows a lower outer temp mean its keeping the heat in?

Or does the styro's higher temp mean its hotter inside as well?

I want to see:
reflective pouch (space blanket and the bubble kind)
normal bath towel folded
open no box

oh and salt water vs tap

The temperature of the contents was the same for the box and sleeve but 18 Celsius hotter with the foam sleeve. The best explanation that I have is that the foam allows heated air to surround the entire entree and retains that heat. This enveloping layer of air is doing a better job of heating the entree.

The box and the sleeve actually sequeezes the air out of the entree and the entree is only being heated by contact with the heating elements.

Pure speculation on my part, but I think that's probably correct.
