Check out our "real cooking" thread, maybe you can participate there too?

Man, I don't know if this is going to make sense, but I kind of come at this from a different view point. As many of you know, one of the businesses I own is a Survival School. For me, I spend a ton of time outdoors in the woods or mountains. And after awhile, the food gets old eating the same old thing. I am also a Preparedness Consultant and help people to get prepared through a logical and methodical manor. That being said, with my reviews I come at things from the perspective of having something different to break up the the boredom. Its why I fell in love with the hobby. New and different things to take to the field and enjoy. I also try to teach things in my videos. For example, I am working on a video that will be multiple parts where I take 3 different international 24 hour rations to the woods for 4 days with nothing else except my knife, water kit, and a small tarp. I plan to live off of the items in the rations. (Spoiler alert, one of the rations is Spanish so I get the toothbrush, lol).

Yes, I like to use a translator app on my phone to help with the internationals. But that still doesn't always do the trick. When I did the Spanish lunch, I was seriously shocked when I opened the can and saw the contents. Lol. Had that one WAY wrong in my head.

We are a pretty diverse community. While we all share a love for the hobby, we come from different backgrounds and ideologies. This makes for some seriously different opinions on a lot of issues, but we can all find common ground in the rations. I know where you are coming from with the questions, and I know you didn't want to come off sounding like you were slamming one of the reviewers. The intent of the thread was to ask about how the reviewers do things so you can learn, and for me that's what's important. I actually feel guilty when I eat a ration and don't do a review. Lol. It's like we all feel this sense of loyalty to each other to help expand and grow the hobby by sharing our experiences with each other. And that folks, is the sum total of why this community is so great. Because we have each other.

Sorry for a little off-topic. Talking about diversity in our community - do we have also women in MREInfo ? I'm just curious, nothing's behind this question. It seems to be a boys' hobby :)

Honestly, one of the things I like about Alduin is the fact he's like he is. Seeing how a normal civillian would be if handed a ration with no background is a situation that is likely. I look at how the refugees were after Katrina when FEMA was dropping cases of MREs....no info, no internet or teanslations...it gives a different approach.

Personally, I base my reviews off both a desire to learn and inform, and from a southern cooks POV. I do try to find translations, but sometimes the funs in the not knowing. ;)
