Canadian IMP - Breakfast Menu 6 - Beans and Wieners

Thanks to blackdogbob for sending this one my way! I had this breakfast for dinner, but beans and hot dog chunks was always more of a dinner time food in my family anyway so it worked out.

I used the boil in pouch method for this one, and I chose to use boiling water for the coffee and the oatmeal. The cereal had about 10 minutes to set, but it stayed much more watery than expected. It was still very tasty. I must have used too much water, but the only instructions are to add water to taste.

The baked beans were pretty good - standard fare. The hotdog chunks were ok - not great - but certainly not bad. I had the first half with a little bit of the cornbread, and the second half I coated with the hot sauce packet. The hot sauce was a milky white color - I'm still not exactly sure why. It tasted just fine. The ketchup packet however seemed to be spoiled. It was swollen nearly to the bursting point. That's ok though, I wouldn't have added it to anything in the meal. The sports drink mixed up well and was a good partner with the beans.

I can't say enough good things about the peaches. The Canadian plant for Baxter (who now owns Wornick by the way) makes some excellent pouched fruit. I've had them a few times now, and they're always fresh smelling and tasting. I ate the second half of the cornbread with strawberry jam. It was a different sort of choice, but it turned out great! I drank the coffee while I ate the cornbread and jam as a sort of follow up to the main meal.

One thing I learned doing this review, my cat Ted apparently loves baked beans. Normally he'll sneak up and stare at me while I'm eating a ration. That'll prompt me to offer a small bit - he'll smell it, and usually leave me be. This time he went for it and wouldn't leave until I gave him a few more beans. Definitely and interesting choice for him - normally he'd only go for meat or dairy items.

In any case, thanks for reading!

Thanks for the review. Main meal looks good and if cat eats... it must be good food then.
