So, I pulled a couple of my older MRE's to see how they are. Saturdays lunch consisted of a Menu 20 Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, produced by Ameriqual.

still vacuum sealed in the inner packaging. A good sign

Accessories, Skittles, Pretzel sticks, and the Main. Notice the date code, the one stamped on the package was 1113, so not much time between production and packaging.

Raisins, and Chipotle snack bread.

Hot Sauce, cheese packet, and Beverage Base, Orange...Formulation C? Not familar with that...

The Diablo (as I call it) coffee, cream and sugar.

Cheese spread on the chipotle bread

Orange drink
Spaghetti was good, it says it has beef crumbles, but they looked more like little meatballs to me. (coulda swore I got a pic of the entree, but it's not there..) Hot Sauce really perked it up, and I got lucky in the FRH still got good and hot, even after 5 years. Bread still had a good spice, and was great with the cheese. The pretzels were Pretzels, The skittles are skittles, nothing new there. Coffee was the same ole same ole, But what did throw me was the Orange drink...Was not familiar with the "Formulation C" label, and I've never had a beverage powder mix up almost instantly like it did. Then, when I went to taste it, it almost had a effervescence, like a soda that's almost but not quite flat....a little tingle of bubbles on the tongue, but not enough to stand out. Never experienced it before, and if it wasn't for that formulation C label, i'd have just thought it was turning...but I don't know.
All in all, a 5yr old MRE that still tasted as fresh as any of the newer ones I've eaten. Definately a winner.
