Actually your point makes more sense elandil. Even here in socialist-occupied western Massachusetts, the authorities pretty much leave people alone as for prepping; my guess is that the authorities figure less work for them to do if people can stay off the roads during a nor'easter because they have all the stuff they need. Walmart will usually run out of tuna and other canned stuff as well as coleman gas and storm matches ( kinda makes me hope these people have good ventilation if they intend to cook indoors with a camp stove). In a man-made scenario however, I'm thinking all bets are off. I have a niece who lives 35 floors up in Manhattan, not sure what she'd do but I'm thinking at least she would not starve to death.....

So far the cheapest I've found MREs for online is $10.50 flat with free shipping. They're being sold by a nutty prepper from West Virginia; all of his product descriptions are in all caps and state his desire to sell them to "true patriots" for what he believes to be an upcoming government-sponsored cataclysm/civil war/other apocalyptic scenario.

There is/was a seller on eBay selling FSR's for $42 (that includes shipping) for 3. Menus 1,2 and 3. I jumped on them! Date codes were 2175.

RockyRaab wrote:I've noticed price creep at my local military base, too. A year ago, a current-issue MRE was $7.45 and a TOTM was $4.53. A couple of months back, they both went up 35 cents. Last week, an MRE was $8.36 and a TOTM had gone to $4.97. The somewhat odd numbers are because they simply divide the case price by 12 to sell individual meals.
I consider them to still be worth the price. A TOTM is till less than the price of a fast-food meal and an MRE is less than a casual restaurant meal by a good stretch. And the last time I checked, the local pizza place won't deliver to my kayak, LOL!
Yup, about the same prices for MREs and TOTMs at my commissary.

I've been having good luck getting cases of regular MREs for about $60 (~$5 a piece) on ebay. I'm not a serious prepper or outdoorsperson, but I like keeping a few here and there just in case. And who knows, I may have the time to visit this "Outside" everyone keeps talking about, in which case they will be decent hiking food.

Just a few days ago I found a "B" case of Genuine U.S. Military MREs on Ebay for $40, Produced in 2014. I snatched it up, with the shipping it cost about 59 bucks. The guy had listed like 40 cases and they all sold in about 3 days. I think there were some A cases still for sale same price but produced in 2013 if I remember correctly. It sounds too good to be true but i'll find out when they arrive.

I picked up a few more cases on eBay recently, and they are 2014 DoP and sealed cases. They were a pretty good deal as well, and I was pleased. Everything seems totally legit with them. Good TTI, no evidence of tampering, etc. I sampled one of them, and they look as fresh as advertised. Hope your purchase goes well too.ThisFish wrote:Just a few days ago I found a "B" case of Genuine U.S. Military MREs on Ebay for $40, Produced in 2014. In Croatia there is no shops that sell MRE, only our local version of ebay. Price for 1 MRE is about 7.5 USD. In slovenia sometimes they sell 12 pack box for 50 euros, that's lowest price... 57 USD I think.
But keep in mind USA standard and Croatian standard. It's cheaper for you to buy MRE that is 12-15 dollars then me for 7 dollars
