Agreed Modplod....My normal purchase price for a case of MREs is about £70 and £5.80 each..Which is about $120 and $9ish.

When I see you US guys paying the dosh you do, I have to have a little weep to myself....

Good job they are so much fun to eat!

Yeah, it seems that way, also they dont have a privacy policy as I recieved an email from ebay France explaining that this was the reason for the sellers suspension and not to bother leaving feedback!! (edit - or paying, but it was too late by then. luckilly he was sound and sent the goods rather than just keeping my cash, and the French delicacies really made our otherwise 'roughing it' hiking trip!)

Yes, I'm kind of joking but I do often find some of the US based complaints about pricing harder to swallow than the MREs themselves!!

I hear what you're saying modplod. But the problem is, if the average price of MREs on ebay over here in the US is $50/case then maybe it costs you $100/case. But if prices here rise to $80 a case here because of shortages and hurricanes, then prices are probably going to go up the same amount (or more) for you, too.

I still think it's too bad we can't arrange an MRE/British ration exchange here. Shipping usually kills the deal - that's the problem.

The heater part is iffy...those MREs might come with a heater but they're definitely not "new". Here's a copy of the message I just sent the seller:
Regarding the MREs in your auction, you should know that they stopped producing the dark-brown MREs in 1995. The 1996 and newer production runs are now using a light-tan bag color. I would recommend removing the word "new" from the title and description so as to not mislead any potential buyers. Those MREs are at least 11 years old.

You're so unfair. I'm quite sure that;

1) The poor guy has a rubbish digital camera hence the dark tint. Thats why he's selling the MREs, to upgrade to a NEW One Megapixel model just launched this year...?!

2) He left out the end of the statement. 'PERFECT FOR CAMPING, HIKING, AND HUNTING, AND THEN AFTERWARDS SEEING WHAT A STOMACH PUMP FEELS LIKE AT YOUR LOCAL HOSPITAL'

re: the MRe / Brit swap, I dont think its just the postage would hold the deal up. See, us Brits get ripped for pricing even on our own rations (were still talking min. $14 - $16 minimum a pop here, in my own limited experience anyway, and thats in bulk. Anything cheaper usually guarantees you mouldy chocolate and 'removed' cheese spread. I've really gone off the things personally, although I might show some interest when we start seeing the newer ones (curry and rice dishes, commercial chocolate. (Chocolate almost hilariously marked 'Its Not For Civies' on the packet in a twist on the slightly sexist 'Its Not For Girls' on the actual civilian version!). But hey, I can get canned curry, pre-cooked rice and yorkie bars at the local supermarket.. :-( Thats the attraction of MREs for my hiking trips, manageable portions and plenty of variety.

Wow, I didn't expect him to pull the auction. He actually replied to my message and said, "Yes--your point is well taken. By new I meant unopened. Thanks!".

So I guess he's an up-front guy - maybe he's just going to relist them.

Sellers on Ebay are not allowed to list their items as having heaters. The seller was probably told to remove the item or he would be removed from Ebay. Pictures can show the heaters and Military Meals can be sold on Ebay as long as they do not state the heaters are included in the verbage. I know someone who got in trouble for that.
