Quickie review, 2013 Menu 13-cheese tortellini

Post by elandil » Thu Dec 11, 2014 9:29 pm

Ok, grabbed a MRE out of the box today to have for lunch, (no leftovers and didn't feel like leaving work) and wouldn't ya know it, I grab Tortellini. So, since I hadn't seen a review on here for one in a while, I thought why not do a quickie.

(I know, I know, I'm behind on my other reviews...I've got them planned out... 8) )

So, for a quick review...

The bag...

The wet pack fruit was a Mango-Peach applesauce. It has an interesting story, see the end...

Orange beverage drink...

Only seasoning packet, no salt or tobasco... :?

My lunch...

Ok, you noticed some stuff was missing from the review...I didn't cover the PB and crackers or M&M's because...well, everybody knows them...

The First Strike bar, Apple-cinnamon, will be my snack later, not sure if I will get some pics to update because I might wait and eat it on the hour drive home.

As for the applesauce...See, what had happened was...

Actually, one of my coworkers I know pretty well came in the breakroom while I was taking the pics. He was kinda amazed, was not really familiar with the MRE's as they are today. So, we started chatting about them, the advances, etc. and I offered him the applesauce to sample. I'm not a big fan of it anyway, and it was a good way to help introduce a new person to the wonders that our government feeds our soldiers in these modern times. So, sorry, no review of it for goodwill purposes... :D

Yup. I've had the Tortellini as a TOTM and found it just fine. It has the usual "boyardee" flavor of most other MRE pasta and tomato sauce dishes, but that's not all bad.

So, how did your co-worker like the fruit? Do we have a new MRE fan?

Just had this one yesterday. My wet pack fruit was the pears in heavy syrup, which I really enjoyed! My first strike bar was the chocolate which again was very good! If you've had the cran-raspberry one out of the FSR, it's exactly the same texture and has those rice crispies inside. I enjoyed this one!
