Menu 4, Maple Pork Sausage, 2011

Post by EmRE » Tue Dec 16, 2014 10:40 pm

Here's a link to my photo review of this awesome MRE. [/url]
This was a darn tasty MRE. Definitely on the sweeter end of the spectrum, but I don't mind that at all. In fact, this is probably my favorite MRE so far. I would eat this again and again.

Hope you like the review and the photos. If you have any questions, please ask. I'd be happy to reply.
Happy Hanukkah, y'all!

The 2013 ones have the trail mix and cheese spread, right? Man, I just don't know that the cheese would go with everything else. I mean, it's a break from the barrage of sweet, so if you don't have a strong sweet tooth, it's probably better. I can see where the trail mix is needed though. This MRE was a bit light on protein.
I accidentally read the menu for the pork sausage with gravy and nearly fell out because I thought they had stopped making this one with my beloved maple muffin top.

Great review! I've always been a fan of the MRE muffins and pound cakes. They're a great dessert, especially compared to the boring fruit in syrup in the aussie packs.

I think they take the Maple over the top... Maple sausage, maple muffin top and maple syrup... What are you supposed to do with the syrup?

Good point. Always had extra packets rolling around that I couldn't use anywhere else. Ive only had maple syrup once or twice in my life. Its not big over here.

I didn't taste the maple super strongly in the sausage patty itself, so I guess the syrup is just there so that you can up the level of maple if you see fit. Kinda like salt or hot sauce. And whatever I don't use returns ho!e to the big bag o' ration parts to be salvaged into a homemade ration. I look like a clepto walking out of fast food places and convenience stores now, with my pockets full of sauce packets and the like :D

On a different note, I received a gift today of a 2010 maple sausage MRE, so maybe after the holidays I can hit the trail and give these years a comparison.

Good review, I would like to try the maple flavor patty with hash browns. I have tried the plain pork patty and enjoyed it as a breakfast meal.
The good thing about the plain flavor is you can mix it with other meals. The maple flavor would limit this for me, but for breakfast it would be a good choice.

I can speak favorably about the Maple patty. Try it together with the hash browns and the spiced apples.
Give the hash browns a bit of a fry-off in your pan, then put in the FRH heated patty, have the apples on the side.... Best breakfast ever!
Add a muffin top, and you're good till dinner.
