2012 EPa

Post by housil » Thu Dec 04, 2014 10:58 am

Back in 2010, the German Army (Bundeswehr) increased their selection of EPas from 3 to now 19.
Lucky me I could get my hands on two new 2012 "Typ III".

The overview of the contents of 2 (!) EPas
EPa 121.jpg
No changes at the entrees ("south american vegetable chili" (vegetarian dish) "Hamburger w/ tomato sauce" (porkless dish)), nor the canned bread, jam, pate and chocolate

These are new:

The "Brotaufstrich naturell" is a margarine. Chewing gum, coffee/tea and tea whitner are coming now from a different, civilian outdoor food manufacturer in shiny (!) tinfoil packages.

New is the "cereal bar".
EPa 124.jpg
The beverages are now from "Orifo", but still the same (awful) grapefruit and "exotic" taste. Matches (waterproof), sugar, salt and water purification tablets are still the same.

Freeze dried dessert and müsli are the same as from the "EPa leicht".

They are far from the great Mountains House and Scandinavian taste

sweet review. Great pictures. The matches had me confused, never seen them in a packet like that before.

Since their beginning, our matches were always packed into water proof pouches

And the matches are made from wood, not cardboard

Wunderbar mein freund! Schönes bilder.... Hope I said it right.
Nice pics. I still don't know why they use cardboard matches here instead of wood.

I've had that same freeze dried chocolate mousse in a Slovenian ration. I've saved all my international ration reviews for 2015, I have pictures of the same mousse, it was delicious! I love EPAs they are great rations! Early 2015 I will post over a half dozen international ration reviews.

Very Interesting and could you give a quick impression of the 'South American Style' Chili. Is it spicy and flavored with pepper?
Or more mild tasting?

Housil a side note
Some books claim Typical American Chili as served in Texas was a early 1800's
German/Mexico immigrant created meal. At one time the Government of Mexico encouraged immigration from the area of present day Germany to the Northern provinces of Mexico. At this time Texas was still part of Mexico. It was said the immigrants made the meal using the plentiful local variety of Beans and Chili peppers Yet Most people would never connect Germany with taste of Chili

I have to confess, I have never eaten it...
It´s a "legumes stew" that causes too much gas

But Housil, you miss out asking the Wife to pull your finger.
I come in peace. I didn't bring artillery. But I'm pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you **** with me, I'll kill you all.

Tha't is one of my favorite meals. Easy to make. Today I had some homemade black bean chili with cornbread...yummmooooo!
The possibilities are endless. I bet there is a way to make it so that is wouldn't give you gas.
Or simply take some Beano pills.....lol
