Made a bone-headed mistake yesterday

Post by RockyRaab » Wed Apr 16, 2014 1:57 pm

Was at my local Air Force Commissary doing the monthly shopping. As always, I checked out the MRE racks. They were almost empty, so I didn't expect much. A few TOTMs with cheese tortellini or ratatouille and three full MREs, also in veggie flavor. Except one. It was a Meal 19, Jalapeno Pepperjack Beef Patty. And I passed it up.

Looked it up when I got home and learned that it may be the Holy Grail of MREs. All new menu for 2013, with not only the delicious entree, but two wheat breads, cherry/blueberry cobbler, cookie, and CHEESE SPREAD WITH BACON!

I now have a dislocated hip from kicking myself in the butt. I'd drive all the way back, but I'm certain it's gone by now.

DAMN

After posting that, I stewed myself into a lather and drove back to the base. Miracle of miracles, Meal 19 was still there. This time, I grabbed it like a Labrador retrieving a mallard.

My hip feels better now!

Gonna hafta make an all-day fishing trip so I can eat this treasure.

Glad you could grab it.
Now you're faced with that dubious choice of hoard it, or eat it.

This is obviously why you are "Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult".

You have me pegged. All my life (because my parents went through the Great Depression) I've tended to "save" good things - often until they became unusable. No occasion ever seems good enough to crack open that special bottle of wine, don't waste that fabulous steak in the freezer, and - in this instance - why open that MRE I'll likely never find again?

You might have to pass up on the bacon cheese spread, but you can get the jalapeno jack main as well as the cherry berry cobbler over at Epicenter.

Just in case anyone was still looking, Emergency Essentials has Bacon, Jalepeno, and Regular Cheese Spread for $0.75 each here. The Epicenter has them for $0.99 each here.
