HALAL MEALS

Post by mreheater72 » Sat May 03, 2014 1:37 pm

Hi guys,

found that on ebay.com  :

http://www.ebay.de/itm/HALAL-MRE-Case-R ... true&rt=nc

Has anybody of you seen such a case before (according to the appearance of the box I would say that is military, not civilian)?

Interesting! Also note the pack date;the 63rd day of 2014, now look at the test/Insp date - only one year between them. The dates make me wonder if they are not just the "old" style Halal meals packed in a MRE carton.

Yep, those are genuine US military rations. There are both Halal and Kosher ones, I'm assuming they're made by the same company because the packaging and marketing materials are almost identical even though they claim to be different companies. I've not had any myself, but I have heard people claim that they taste better than the standard MREs, though they have a much shorter shelf life.

I have tried both and they are really good. The best thing is these meals don't have as much preservatives and additive junk too. I have never seen them come in this normal type MRE case though. They usually come in a smaller rectangular box.

There are two pictures of similar boxes on the manufacturer's main page "slideshow", though they just say "Halal" and not "Halal Meals". The fact that the case on auction appears to be nearly brand new (4063, March 4 2014) could have to do with the packaging discrepancy.

On my last FOB we at least had cases of the meals (never saw any of the accessory packs that apparently are supposed to accompany them), I guess for issue to locals in some capacity (interpreters? the locals who worked with SOF? never actually saw any issued, so I'm not sure on that part). I tried a few of them for lunch some days I was stuck down in the supply yard supervising Afghan workers -- nice alternative range of entrees, as good as standard MREs, and definitely better than the DFAC's box lunch which was always mashed potatoes, gravy, mixed vegetables, and some sort of protein. I think they are all stew/casserole sort of entrees, without any of the meat patties or anything along those lines (at least from what I saw).

I'd definitely be interested to see what the contents of the boxed case look like when opened.
