Old Singapore Combat Ration

Post by donaldjcheek » Mon Jan 07, 2013 2:35 pm

Just got a picture of the old (pre-1995) Singapore Armed Forces Combat Ration pack. It consisted primarily of canned items & hard biscuits, weighed 2.2 kg (nearly 5 lbs) and was designed to be shared by 2 soldiers. It came in 4 menus.

The new ration pack weighs 1.6 kg (3 & 1/2 lbs), contains a wider variety of items, and consists primarily of ready-to-eat retort pouch items.

Oh man, it comes with a pack of Pocari Sweat. Tasty Japanese drink. It's not super uncommon in the states so if you happen to come across some, give it a try. I have a few packets of them in my hoard.

The best possible MRE: 1lb bag of Jalapeño cheese spread.

The actor Jean Reno did a number of interesting ads on Japanese television for Pocari Sweat! Strange name... just never sounded tasty  It's really a shame that the owner stopped updating that site years ago (seems like 2006ish) If anyone takes a gander at the site I recommend Nicholas Cage, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger for starters. Lots of comedy gold on there.
