I think if they wanted to cut off the preppers, they'd force Sopako and other companies to stop manufacturing civilian versions of the rations, and even then preppers don't usually stock up on MREs, it's mostly bulk food items and canned goods. From there you can easily make your own ration packs with a food saver.

I'd have to agree on fdsman on this one. If the govenment wanted to stop the sale of MRE's (civilian or military) they would have done so before the 1990's and restricted the distribution of military rations for active, national guard, and reserve folks. Even then you might have got some MRE's out there for sale but not on a large scale like we see now on craigslist and ebay. I'm still with the notion that this is a manufacturing slip up. :wink:

You guys are probably right, but I would not put much past some of our politicians.
