Coffee!

Post by ak70g2 » Sat Apr 14, 2012 3:58 am

Because I'm staring right now in a menacing-looking mug of coffee (I had a very "hard" night    ) I'll ask my fellow MREinfo forum members what they think about this wonderful beverage, any advices, any tips, which brand you liked, how you prepare?

I'm using mostly some Jacobs brand (our german members I think knows the green packs) and I'm very fond about turkish way to make a coffee:

(I live in the SE part of Romania, this land was turkish province 150 years ago, I have many turks in the neighbourhood and turkish coffee tradition is very strong here)

I allways drink mine the French way - au laite or "sweet and blond" how I like to call it.
In the afternoon I flavour them with Coffeemate hazlenut or Splenda flavours.

In the fields I prefer the EPa black tea. It´s a real strong tea and I like the taste more.

The green Jackobs ("Krönung") is one of the bests.

This is one of my favorite ways to trink coffee - the brewing of the malt liek turkish, balkon, greek or how ever style - not to filter it!

For on the run, I like the Jacobs instant. it`s fast!

The main thing on automatet coffee or machine coffee is the temperature of the water - the hotter the better taste it!

Never tried proper Turkish coffee, but i have done Moroccan tea which is nice.

But 99% of the time i go for simple and pure
Tasters choice instant with a pack of sugar if i can get one. (yes the same as the packets in MRE's)

It is real coffee, has crema when brewed, and has a very clean flavor.
If you really need a kick, skip the water and pour the pack under your tongue

If you don't already, Use (carbon) filtered water!!!

NNF, if you have some ground coffee at hand,

- take a small pot, pour some water on it, put on gas stove or what you have, bring to rolling boil

- put 3 teaspoons of ground coffee and 2 teaspoons of sugar in a ceramic/glass mug (this is my taste "setting") and stir

- pout boiling water over coffee and sugar, stir throughly and let the grounds settle

- taste and adjust the sugar.

This is the recipe I used for 20 years. Enjoy! :D :D :D

Does it matter how fine the coffee is ground?

I use the coffee for filter, just stir and let it "melting" :)

As for coffee, I'll have to admit that an old saying, "medics make the worst patients" applies to me; I have type 2 diabetes, and although my doctor does not want me to drink alot of it, I still love the general foods international coffees which are about 20% coffee and 80% stuff that's not very good for me. I do like decaf instant coffee at night though, and the way I make it is similar to housil's way, "sweet and blonde" (I use lots of creamora) but since my doctor does not want me to use artificial sweetener, I have to try to use as little sugar as I can. When we had the MCIs back in the day, if we wanted flavored coffee our only option was to mix the cocoa powder with it, but now the new MREs have flavored coffee in them. Sorry to wander off topic here, just woke up a bit ago.
