2006 - Chicken Fajita - Menu 6

Post by hannonmc » Thu Aug 18, 2011 1:01 pm

I've been wanting to try this menu for some time now. After trying it, I have mixed feelings.

This one was packed by Ameriqual. As usual, it had the bulk of the components in an seperate inner bag. The date codes for the meal / sidedish are as follows: Chicken Fajita Filling (6097) / Yellow and Wild Rice Pilaf (6095)

All of the contents...
So, I heated up the meal in a pot of boiling water. My initial impression was favorable. The rice even looked better than other MRE rice I've had. The Chicken Fajita smelled good as well.

Ready to eat...
So, I tried the fajita filling by itself. Got a good taste of spice, some pepper, some tomato. The rice was rather bland tho.

So, I put the filling on the tortillas and then the fun began. The tortillas fall apart, much like they have in the past. That seems to be the big downfall of them. I really don't know how you would really go about eating these in the field. You'd have filling all over the place.

I added cheese and continued eating. Overall, it tasted pretty good, but after finishing the first one, and starting on the next, the taste started getting old.

I really didn't each much of the rice since it was so bland.

Would I eat this one again... Hmmm... it is a toss up. It wasn't bad, but certainly was not a favorite.

I have never tried to eat an entree in the tortilla, but I can imagine that that do not work. Not on a plate and as you wrote, never in the field.

With that rice I have made another experience. I really like, even cold.

So long mreheater

I eat a lot of fajitas and I think this entree is just terrible. It's like bell pepper and onion flavored goo over chicken, not really much fajita flavor. The fact that you eat it on a tortilla doesn't make it a fajita.

BigMark,

You really hit the nail on the head with that comment. It is missing some essential spices that would kick it over the edge I think.

I've had much worse MREs than this one.
