Saladin armored car

Post by rationtin440 » Tue Feb 22, 2011 10:54 pm

I did not want to post this on the international rations british 10 man ration topic because I did not want to keep going off topic there, but does anyone know if the Saladin armored car is still in use by UK forces or has it been retired? Actually the first one I ever saw was a 1/35th scale model kit by the Tamiya company, which I built as a teen ager for a cold war project in high school. During Desert Shield I saw a vehicle which I was told was a Saladin but it was a Saudi army version, so not sure if they are still in use these days by any nation. Thanks for any info anyone may have.

Sorry guys, I forgot to mention that the vehicle had an odd-angular turret and if I recall right from the real one it had 6 tires (we're talking 20 or so years ago here, lol!), and I also recall something about it having another driver's position in the rear of the vehicle. I wanna say the gun was a 90mm. but don't hold me to it.

I think those vehicles are obsolete.

Thanks guys! Actually the Saudi version that I saw was an airbase security vehicle, and my buddies and I got a pic with the crew plus a couple of Saudi medics and their ambulance but of course the pics are long gone now or I'd have posted them (in the days before I had internet, November 1990). One thing for sure, you cannot be very tall to ride in one of those Saladins----I had a hard enough time riding in an M-113 ambulance track, I'm only 5'3 but a bit claustrophobic.
