Well, I think I can answer that question for him;

Every country has it's pros and cons, and you settled in one place.
In this place, you got your home, your job, your family.. If some thing is good in an other part of the world, doesn't want to say the country is better to live in.

For example.. Norway is great, but.. living there is freaking expensive. Romania is great, everything is cheap there..
Does that make Romania better then Norway, or the other way around?

The same goes for laws, taxes, living, unemployment, fuel prices etc.
So why wouldn't anyone want to change their country from the inside? As long as you can improve it, instead of destroying it, or keeping it in the dark ages.... I only see advantages? I don't see why anyone should move.

The problem with a lot of US citizens is that they often see change as a threat, every bit of government control is an attack on their well being. On one hand, it's nice that people stand up for their rights, but sometimes you'll need to take a bitter pill to get better.

That's why the Europeans do a lot on enviromental stuff these days, and yes.. we "think" the US is better. Less strict firearms laws compared to here, cheaper homes and cars, fuel is cheap.. But social security is something to cry about compared to Europe.. So..... should I move to that nice place, the US? ;)

Just keep focused ;) don't let them take anything, but also look at the future.. Not everything is that bad :D
Sure, someone may one day kill me with my own gun.
But they'll have to beat me to death with it because it's empty.

The initial question was "Is this true... German Energy Efficiency Law ". I would appreciate to answer that instead of maybe "kidnaping" this thread to figure out where is the best place on earth to live or to conjecture about others motivations :!:

Olli, everything is cheap here compared with Western countries. Here, a 400 euros paycheck is considered a very big salary, my last one was 250 euros, and that's "average". As Cracker said awhile, Romanians come to West to raise some money and to spend them in Romania, 'cause they can buy more here with the same amount of money.

Regarding Efficiency Law, I think is a good thing, to use less resources, to pay less for them, and to enjoy life better. :D

I'll probably go to San Diego for a 3 month training next year.. But I don't want to live there ;)
I'm quite happy in Europe. But to turn back to the initial topic, what is wrong with trying to turn your country to a brighter future?

Change might be a bitter pill sometimes, but it creates oppertunities aswell. Just try to go with the flow, block the negative things.. and take advantage of the good things.

Well, this new Law, about changing lightbulbs is typical...
Fantastic claims of savings, politicians seeking election, Bad science etc.
Turns out the claims of power savings are only good when the new bulbs are left on for longer than 8 hours at a time.
Any shorter times, and incandecent bulbs are cheaper...
I seldom leave any light on for that long...
Not to mention 1/64th of the price to buy, and not toxic waste at the end of life!
Bad science, and twisted statistics, covered up reports...
Sounds like GW
Personally, I'm stocking up on the old bulbs, the 'New' ones are very hard on my eyes.

PS: I'm not against change, I've just seen too many of these 'Improvements' turn out to be so much Bullsh*t.
YMMV

Over "here" we have LED bulbs that you can dimm, with colours ranging from bright white to amber..
2 years ago, they were €50, now you can buy them for prices ranging from 15 to 30 euros. In a couple of years, they will be affordable.

Sounds stupid right?

We still have conventional lightbulbs, but not stronger then 60Watt. (For household use)
I rarely see people that have lightbulbs more powerfull then 60watt in their homes.
The "ban" doesn't count for perimeter lighting etc.. only for common household lightbulbs.

So actually, there isn't really a ban on anything yet, but they are trying to turn the 60Watt max to 40Watt, slowly removing the conventional ones. The chemical filled ones (the energy saving type) is also strictly controlled. They used to be filled with stuff like mercury and such, but that's not allowed anymore. Forcing the producers to find better alternatives.

Also the 8 hour claim is a thing from the past, it's from the time they first had TL tubes with the energy draining starters.
