Thanks, Treesuit.

I very much appreciate the people who have taken the time to respond to my range of questions here on this forum and hope to return the favor some day as well. We're still very interested in any further opinions on the topic and will be making some decisions soon on 'sticking with the (consensus) best' in these categories.

Again, I very much respect your opinions and you've all certainly helped us out a lot with some big deal stuff whether you realize it or not.

2 people for a year(something like 57 cases)...almost 10 grand...you betcha!

Do you think that a similar package could ever be sold that simply included an equal sampling of the original topic?

Eating less than desirable food over a long period of time would be made easier for me knowing that I was eating the best example in each category while always having the option to mix it up a bit.

A couple of years ago, I bought a 'mixed case' of 6 - #10 cans, supposedly enough for 1 person for a month, for IIRC $130...
I added a can of Pilot Biscuits for $15.
Storage life of 30 years +...!
It'll keep you alive, while you look for something tasty to eat!
This, plus assorted cases of MRE's, and MCW's etc, I've got enough for 2-3 months for 2 people.

MREs vs. Dehydrated vs Food Bars: Who has the best?

Btw, thanks for the excellent pics and I'm in the same boat..you're telling me how good it is.. and I can't get quantity. :(

The other thing I (think I) know is about European food processing standards for this type of product. I used to handle food processing pumps and was always amazed (and impressed) that manufacturers were often basically trying to design around your higher standards because few here fought for what Europeans considered (rightly) important in areas like Clean In Place (C.I.P).

In other words...only 'the best' will do for me when it comes to reputable manufacturers; as a lot of us out there have dealt directly with the other side of a coin that is simply not acceptable.

http://mresource.net/mrestar_brand_mres (1/4 of the way down under "MRE STARS")

According to the above; the members of this forum have (apparently) already come to some kind of conclusion in regards to the original topic.

Does anybody have a link to this(?)...as there has obviously been no consensual agreement whatsoever in this thread or even an exceptionally strong opinion either way in this category after better than a month and a half on the board... :?:

Also, it appears that the last blog entry was Feb. of 09...did MREinfo members come to some kind of consensus before even then...and if not...who actually does lead the category as we fast approach 2011?

i just bought some food bars to add to the rubbermaid box in the basement...

i got a package of 3600 calorie datrex and SOS BARS, a 3600 package of mainstay, and about 9 bars of millenium bars (400 calories per bar).

these were on sale online...
http://beprepared.com/product.asp_Q_pn_ ... (9%20bars)

i didnt get mayday bars or ER bars...but maybe i will if i can find a deal online with good shipping.

i havent tried any of these yet but from the label, seems to be fat and sugar bars with some vitamins.

When you find a deal on those last two items; please share...as we're being forced to purchase everything on the market with (evidently) no consensus or opinion as to the original topic. Thanks again to those who shared their thoughts/pics in regards to 2010 (only) Mountain House and Datrex as being the best in their respective category.

Kudos also to dirtbag for the heads up on that 3 times a year Mountain House can sale from ldpcampingfoods.com with free shipping. Going off-topic...but aren't those prices from ldp the absolute lowest in the market during these sales? I compared a couple of cans to Mountain House's pricing and they seemed pretty much equal...(I payed 16 something to ship 2 cans during MH's 25% off sale that ended yesterday).

Still looking for everybody's opinion on the best bars and 2010 MREs (preferably in a 12 pack)...
