You mentioned it was well recieved in Korea but being over used. When did they cease production?
biscuits brown wrote:Well Hagens got an example box dated 1953, and the 1960 Natick list doesnt mention it anymore, so Id say it went mid 50s by the looks of things.

I have two B-UNIT cans in my collection, see the photos. The left one is DoP February 1952, the right one July 1955:

BB,

Very interesting, I would imagine that Natick probably let the Food Packet run out sometime after Korea. And that the existing stocks got used up or were phased out to other US gov't agencies. Which brings me to my next question, in your findings have you come across any US articles or documents from other gov't agencies about the use of this ration or other rations? I know of only two agencies that got surplused MCI, C-rats, K -rats, etc after WWII or during the 1950's. I guess that there might be a reference that we haven't found and looked at yet?

Also, why did the FPIA always have a damn oatmeal cookie? Where's the variety? :?

The Boy Scouts in my area got some C's from time to time, from the local Air Force base.(ex army Camp)
They were (IIRC) early 50's vintage.
We used the heat tabs to kill gophers!
The fumes were deadly!

yep db, another little plus for that assault pack. Heating tabs, (CW ones  )

Dont think any of the C series had heat tabs at the time.

I'm not sure of the dates, but the heat tabs were wrapped in OD foil, either 3 or 4 tabs...
Nasty smelling, but they worked.
Worked on the gophers too :D
