Israel must be the only democracy in the world where you can park up your Merkava MBT and do a bit of shopping

Looks more to be a cardboard box that's been roughed up quite a bit.

I also found this picture on the 10.pro.tok2.com Japanese ration website about it.

Here's a close up of one of the cans.

Loof - aka Mystery Meat: a type of "kosher spam" made from chicken & beef.

Not exactly the tastiest thing out there.

Everything tastes good when your (really) hungry.

The israeli rations are not like other rations, made to provide ALL nutricians that you need.
They are only to fill your stomach in case of emergency, because they are withing supply reach 99% of the time.
You can last a few days to weeks on this stuff, but it simply doesn't supply all vitamines, fibers and minerals that your body needs.
Sure, someone may one day kill me with my own gun.
But they'll have to beat me to death with it because it's empty.

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

Everyone,

I know this may be a shot in the dark but I heard one time tht the Israeli army procured a large shipment of US MRE's as a backup for their supply lines in case things got strung out and the tactical situation got worse. I don't know if it's a rumor or maybe it did happen. I would guess this happened before their last incursion into Lebanon.

The only question that comes to my mind is the fact that most US MRE's are not Kosher certified or made in accordance with Kosher/Jewish standards.

HI, I'm sure if the figure on the contract is big enough any ration supply company can get all the certifications: hallal, kosher, vegetarian, organic, Klingon...

That's pretty funny...hadn't thought of that one

Now in all seriousness if the Israelis did buy up a large stock of US made MRE's I'm sure they did ask about vegetarian, hallal/muslim, etc before ordering. I was wondering if they did get an order, a very large order, before say their push into Lebanon back in say 2006?

Granted if the governement ordered say 10,000 meals and it was a rush order, do you think that the troops on the ground really didn't care about what they were getting as far as food just as long as they had something. I can imagine the Israeli's had some though into that incursion that the supply lines would be difficult to get started and mantain within the first 48 hours, hence the need for rations. I'm curious to know if the rumor is true or not and if so what did they ultimately get?

The new IDF "battle ration" looks to be a damn sight more sophisticated than surplus or rebranded MREs.

Its a 10 menu selection, which are self heating compartment tray meals. Just pull a string apparently.
It comes with an extensive accessories and sides pack, which seem to be retort packaged. Meals are turkey, chicken, kebab, and 7 others unknown.
Sides to the meal are salamis, tuna, preserved fruits, halva bars (the original energy bar) and both sweet and normal retort packaged bread.
I think what they mean by "sweet bread" is a pastry, so it sounds like dessert, with the fruit and halva.
There are 3 meal packs to a ration, 24 hours food supply.

Production and trials began in 2008. So its first major combat deployment would have been cast lead.

Its the most exclusive ration in the world at the moment. No pics are available anywhere.
None appear to be in civilian hands, period.

Its not "my own meals" or a kosher MRE, this seems to be an entirely different design.
