Hi,
although the Coca Cola, gums, corn flakes and other pop corns became very popular in France after the War, strangely the peanut butter always remained rather marginal.
There's only one brand available: Dakatine. Now it's sold in the supermarkets but when I was a kid, I had to find an African grocery to buy some (only in the big towns of course)!
It's used a lot in African cuisine for the “red sauce” for instance (peanut butter, red palm oil, garlic, hot chili pepper, herbs...). It's not much used by the “native” French, the Nutella chocolate spread is much more popular among the kids.

OK, next time I open a MRE, I take a picture of the peanut butter before I eat it!
