Thx for catching that bullet, but when the wall dropped we experinced that "east europeans" they come over here were mostly (I don´t say "all" on purpose!!!) :

Poland: Very "famous" for stealing cars! In 2006 5446 car were stolen in Berlin (very close to Poland), 37% by east europeans. Their favourits are BMW X5.

Former Jugoslavia, especially Albanians, were notouris for pickpocketing and burglary.

And Romanians, please read this:
UK:
Revealed: How Romanian pickpocket gangs are building palaces back home with child slave labour]

Italy:
Romanian Criminals arrive by the thousands in Italy - Government crackdown on foreign crime

Netherlands:
Roemeense criminelen 'plaag'
The police say that groups of Romanian criminals are trying to sell fake gold rings near gas stations on the highways. This is often accompanied by threats. The police define the situation as “a plague.” Since January 2009, there have been 292 complaints, mostly in the province of Limburg

Australia:
eBay targets Romanian fraudsters
"A huge percentage of the fraud we were seeing was from Romania," Henley said"

...

I didn´t wrote Germany on purpose and it has nothing to do with my personal prefernces nor antipathies.
It´s just the worldwide Romanian reputation

Go ahead and change it :D

Yeap Housil, I know. The Rromanians who you describe (they are NOT Romanians, are Rromanians = gypsy) have their villas 30 km from my home. I saw their big and tasteless houses every weekend, twice, when I go to see my friends in Bucharest. As I said, romanians are in their county, working. Don't make the same mistake which press do: confuse Romanians for gypsy.

A quick memory refreshment about who Romanians are:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aurel_Vlaicu

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermann_Oberth - this was an Romanian-born German :)

Need more? Maybe we don't take the Nobel Prize yet, but is not late :)

Gypsy?!?! Oh my gosh...

In Germany it is not allowed to say "gypsy" (=Zigeuner) to anybody
You have to say: "Sinti and Roma" for/to them.

Politicall Correctnes over here...

Housil, as a "bauer" I can tell you that most Romanian people are very decent, hard working people.
They don't complain very much, and yes, there are criminals coming here.. (they come here for money; working or stealing)

Western Europe is where money is easy to get, the hard way, or the easy way. Loads of exjugoslavian and eastern european criminals come here, because the criminal profits are extremely high here.

Lots of those romanian, bulgarian "gold salesmen", pickpockets, moneymachine skimmers, etc are gipsies, like AK70 says. They have the nationality, but are a different "breed" of people.

The poles have a lot of car thieves; your right.. but that's very easy to explain.
There are a lot of polish, russian, and other buyers of luxury cars in that corner of the world.
The polish border is relatively open compared with other borders from the EU (like the czech republic, the balkan)

It's very easy to make a car dissapear via poland; and I can tell you.. they tried to steal my car aswell.. (and that's a 1994 polo!) 99,9% sure it were poles, because they talked(!!) to me the weekend before, if I was selling my car..

And what happend to the old times?
In 1943 you still called the romanians "der Mitkämpfer" now they are criminals? ;)

I worked with loads of eastern european people, and I have to say that the romanian and lituanian are my favorite.
The polish are nice, but are to much "party" minded. Most of the "white" romanian people that come here are very religious catholics, and wouldn't even steal a cookie.

There's only one problem with eastern europeans.. they tend to drink to much before work
Ok.. the evening before, but in the morning there's still not enough blood in their alcohol to function properly after a good night of partying

If you might visit the Netherlands sometimes, tell me in advance, I'd be happy to invite you ;)
There's nothing scary with those people

PS: Most popular is the X5..
Ahh.. your safe.. :D atleast.. for 60%.. it's only an X3

Not ment badly to you AK70; but there is a lot off poverty in in the countries of the former soviet union.
And we, we are just easy prey for their criminals ;) last week there was an interesting thing on television:

Since the fall of the berlin wall; organized crime rates dropped with 35% in one year alone in the DDR
The groups simply "dissapeared".. and they popped up a few years later, all over the BRD and Austria.
With stuff like person smuggling, printing false money, prostitution etc..

There is simply a lot of money "that's just waiting to get picked up" around here.. (and X5s)
Sure, someone may one day kill me with my own gun.
But they'll have to beat me to death with it because it's empty.

We have "them" over here too! They come over here as "harvest helpers" for cucumbers, aspargus etc. Thats the season when we have to respond at nighttime to the farmyard areas, car crashes with drunken "foreigners", sometimes in stolen cars...
That´s what realy happens over here. Not with everybody, you are right! But harvesttime is troubletime at law enforcement and us over here!

But it´s the same when a traveling circus is resting somewhere. Burglaries increase around. No kidding!

Remember, I don´t care about reputaion´s or prejudices, I have my daily (or "nightly" ) experiances!

The circus = gipsies..

About drunk 'n driving = big problem.. here aswell..
Here they help with harvesting apples mai to oktober

BUT harvesters don't steal cars, they can't "stack" the cars somewhere.. the farmer would simply not accept a stolen car on it's property. Larger problem are the foreigners working in the construction works over here.. the criminal rate is much higher, the harvesters are mostly country folks, raised at farms or the country side.. the construction workers are mostly poor city folks from there, much more into criminality, and less religious.

I'm not religious myself, but it really works if your workers are, trust me.

But you shouldn't judge "groups" they are a bit more direct then western people; once you get used to it, it's real fun
The gipsies are the biggest problem from there (even the romanians don't like them) the only problem I have are there drinking (and over here drugs) habbits..

They have as many criminals as us.. the only thing is, the poor people and the criminals come here for the money, so we get a 50/50 balance of criminals/workers around here from romania (very rough said offcourse)

That's why "we" don't like "foreigners"

And your very prejudged because of your work;
You only see the bad examples, and don't get to see the good guys
I only get to see the good examples, the bad examples don't come back from a trip of drunkendriving and get cleaned up by the paramedics (or undertaker)

(Workers are paid once per 2 weeks; penalty for drunkendriving (if you get cought) is fired without you salary paid..)
It's a real problem.. but no one risks that penalty, it's worth to much to them. More farmers should do that, it's not illegal which many people think. You just have to put it in the workcontract, black on white.

You have a very negative image of eastern europeans, you should really meet with some of those people (I mean the ones that are still breathing, sober and haven't crashed into a tree  )
Sure, someone may one day kill me with my own gun.
