Candian IMP 99 Menu 4

Post by Garron » Sat May 23, 2009 10:52 am

Hey Guys

I found this whilst browing ArmyRations.co.uk, Its clearly listed as for collectors only and should not be eaten it was even handwritten on the Invoice... touble is I eat what I collect so I'm going to try it, but I take all responsability if I get ill from it, nothing to do with them at all. Compared to my 24 year old MRE meals this is pretty new :D

Now the legal stuffs over... down to the pics

Heres a the Bag, its Menu 4 1999 dated, Cabbage Rolls in tomato sauce. (Not sure if I like the sound of that  )

The meal, Desert and lovely Canadian Bread

The other items, spreads, biscuits things like that... No honey :D

I'm on an exam period in University right now, I'll try it after the exam until then it will sit on my shelf looking at me and begging to be eaten... slowly and carefully of course and boiled for about 20 minutes just to make sure :D

Norge does this count towards the old stock rations club too?

gues this will count to :D

imps are just so nice to eat,im also waiting for some older imps
i dont thimk you need to heat them for 20 min
just bring the meal to a boil for a few moments
that kills most germs known around
and do the smell, taste, look, leak test

    enjoy your meal! norge

I'm with you, Garron. It doesn't make any sense to me to collect rations that you don't eat.

I've heard of the "Cabbage Rolls in tomato sauce" IMP and it sounds awful! I love boiled cabbage and coleslaw, and it still sounds awful. I realize there are differences in cultural mores, but I can't believe that Canadian soldiers are so different from American ones, and that meal would never work for am MRE.

Please take a photo of the cabbage things. I'd love to see them.

Yep thats my normal test for older rations Norge.

My first thought about them wasn't nice but I will wait and see, don't judge a book by its cover or a meal by its name in this case :D They look OK in Housils pics.

Its strange, the difference between Canada and the US, wonder if its the French influence? Its what you are brought up with, I grew up with the stereotypical standard British food plus the Welsh elements.

You can see the influence of other cultures in the British packs, now there are more Halal, Kosher and Veggie menus than before, with the new MCR packs there is even more. I highly doubt a meatloaf or a Clam Chowder entree would work for British troops.

Thanks for that link- Cabbage rolls don't look so bad in the photos, after all.

It would be funny to see how our guys would react to it, though.
