Re: Results from Menu C MRE (Large Post)
Well, it's good that they finally updated their calorie counts. I'll have to go back and compare the old menus to the new to see what changes happened in the menus. They probably don't have too much control over what goes into the Menu C MREs but it wouldn't hurt to spot-check a case every now and then to make sure the contents are correct. I'll even volunteer to do it!

I am amazed!!!
One of the big complaints that I have made regarding the Menu Cs have been the lack of good nutrition. Basically, each menu was an entree and a selection of snacks. The new menu is completely different in terms of nutrition and I think that it is a vast improvement.
Where you have spreads, you have crackers or bread to spread it on. Each non-pasta entree offers a starch side. As a whole, the new menu is a far superior choice for someone who wants to enjoy a reasonably balance diet though an emergency situation. There is much less of the appearance that they are throwing in items just to pump up the calorie count, like BBQ sauce with the chicken & dumplings.
But... there is a complete absence of snack crackers, sport bars, and some menus have no cookies at all in place of the triple threat (cinnamon scone, fig bar, oatmeal cookie) of the old menu C.
I am suddenly tempted to buy, but I wonder about the Menu C fans who were so endeared by the plethora of empty calories. This menu C doesn't look like a Super Bowl party minus the beer!

Not really.
It really sucks they couldn't keep producing the real Menu C cases, they were great, I like to give them to people who don't really like MREs since they get more stuff and less of a meal, esp., since who cares if you get a rounded meal when you're just grabbing a bite while fishing? C'est la vie. I've always liked the real deal better anyway, you know what you're getting and you get for sure current production and new items as opposed to the same 12 things.
