2006 Case- Two different binding straps?

Post by Richard w. » Thu Jan 08, 2009 10:33 am

I cracked open a case out of my stash this morning, and I noticed that the two plastic straps that hold the case closed are different from each other.

Both are plastic, but appear to be different types of plastic. One is black and the other is clear. I know that nothing related to the MRE is done by chance, and I'm wondering what each type is designed to do. Is it that they are rated for different bursting weights(?)

I've seen this a million times, but never really thought about it. Anyone know?

Reglued and restrapped?

Sometimes I save this strapes to use them on cases I get without.
I also reglued one of my own case that had been open by the seller and put two of my saved strapes around, why not two different - I don´t care...
Maybe you got one of those "modified" :?:

I suppose it could be a case of someone manually re-strapping the case with different colored straps. But I would be more inclined to guess that it's something where the case strapping machine ran out of straps and so they just loaded it with the next roll of straps...which happened to be a different color.

Or maybe there is some deeper significance that we're missing. We could always make up a new MRE rumor kind of like how there's supposed to be laxative in the chewing gum (that's a rumor!). We could say the MRE cases with two different straps are "Special Forces" MREs...or that they're MREs that have been airdropped without a parachute, inspected, then re-banded to indicate they're still good. :-)
