TTI INDICATORS: where to get some

Post by sag45 » Sat Jan 10, 2009 11:39 pm

Anyone know of a company or similiar item that you can just paste on the cases of MRE's to monitor the environment?
I did a search on the internet, but only found what the TTI's are and not about buying some. I'm sure there are other ways to do this. For me right now, I just have a wireless temperature indicator in the closet, but only records min and max temperature until and lower or higher min or max temperature overrides the original readings. Its a 35 dollar dual temp sensor that I bought at Best Buy, but if you want to log actual temp data all the time, then were talking 100+ $ for that plus a computer to read the data. I think TTI's would be good instead of spending 100 bucks, but dont know where I can find some for a reasonable price.

That's a pretty good idea but I'm not sure right offhand where you might find something like that.

I will look into this further and post results. I am going to one of the loading docks I used to work at. I know we had some fragile sensors on some of the cargo we handled, so they might know about temperature sensors or labels also. I guess I'm being to conscious (hope I spelled that right) about keeping these MRE's at 70° or below. I have central air, but during the summer its cost money to keep the whole house cool especially when I'm not home in day time, actually a 800 sq. ft. house but that electric bill goes up anyway, so I just keep a window unit on in the bedroom when I sleep in for the night time. Maybe I will secure the bedroom door and keep the MRE'S in there. As for the secured closet, I was thinking of making a lower and upper holes or vents 8"x12" on the door, but regardless I dont think it would cool or circulate as well as in the room itself. MAN!, I get in some expensive or unique hobbies, like MRE's now, but then again this is considered more of a survial thing if the SHTF one of these days. Other than this, electronics and ham radio have been the most expensive. Hell I live in combat zone 3 so I worry about someone taking the MRE's. Hey its better than saying I live in combat zone 1. This isnt the nicest neighborhood, but it could be worse.

Still researching these TTI's. Did find some companies on the net, but the wont give price, some labels are for $ 4.00 each with about 6 different temp levels. The TTI's we see on the Menu A/B 's cost (according to the article I found)
.03 cents, yes three cents, but I dont know if they sell to the public and then again they probably have a high minimum amount to place an order.

That would be great to have for personal use, I wouldn't mind having them either. But as we all know they could be used to decive others about the condition of the cases of MREs. I would hate for them to fall into the hands of unethical Ebay sellers. Ouch.

Yeah,

I was thinking the same thing as Wstrnsky, it would seem like a bit of drastic thinking that if somebody got ahold of these and then sold them as originals on ebay then who knows what can of worms we just opened. I mean it's not so bad right now but let's think about it some. I know we all have good intentions and interest but........

I do admit those are a good idea for home useage or storing MRE's

Good idea, I really didn't think about that, but maybe thats why they are (the MRE's TTI's) or are NOT eaisly available.
The shipping person at work is also going to look thru the companies we do business with for boxes, tape etc and see if he can find something similiar. Thanks for the Head up! I had something in mind like from 60° to 100°. I'll keep updated when info is avail.
