but OLD FRH 1St. Generation FRH
but OLD FRH 1St. Generation FRH
Hello, I'm a newbie, so I wound up with these from MRESTAR during the week and they said they were 1ST generation, but I thought they were in working order. I was rather upset that powder stuff had come out of the cardboard box and made for a messy FRH when I opened the box but I used it. I assume the powder was one large part inside the heater box at one time many moons ago. I had to rinse off the food pouch before I opened it or ELSE! Id be eating powder agents with my food. I have posted a few pics. Are these really from 1992?, There is no 4 or more digit code on the bottom like the current ones today. They are tan in color, the pic on the website looks like green, then again a little tan! Oh Well!, lesson learned and I took a loss on this one. Oh! one more thing they had a bad odor, like a little too much for you to want to be hungry. So tell me, is this the way they used to make em? I didnt know where to put this post, but here. KMAN you can move it if you find a better place for a subject. thanks

yes - the older ones have the production date on it like you see there "1992". you can also see that the newer ones only have the code on it as you said.
i used to warm my meals also with the older ones. they looked exactly like yours. well - it will take longer to warm up but in the end they are still OK. ok - the powder went out of the packet but ... its 16 years now...

I also bought a bunch of them long in the past. Mine also leaked. I think I even posted a picture or two of them here.
The good news is the old pads still work just fine, they just take a little while to heat up. I used the old style FRHs in a cooler bag because I did not want to have all the spilled powder all over my meals. I actually prefer the old heaters for something’s, the new heaters heat up so fast, sometimes I wish I still had some old ones.

I've had an old first generation one in an '02 mre.
Re: but OLD FRH 1St. Generation FRH
thanks for the info, found and read the first OLD FRH post, what I have been doing to use these OLD FRH's up is putting the meal inside a gallon size zip-lock bag wrapping it and then stuffing that into the FRH, that way its not as messy when I pull that out. For now I'm not in a situation where water is scarce and YES just putting water over the meal will get all that mess off them and READY TO EAT! if you dont use a zip-lock.
POTTED MEAT! A FAVORITE! Eat too much and you get THE GOUT!

I have a bunch of those 1992 FRHs and haven't had good luck with them. Even when I let them stand for 20 minutes, they don't seem to generate enough heat.
